"After retirement he managed to land a dream job for men of his ilk – flying fighter jets for a civilian company contracted to provide the opposing force for naval aviators at the TOPGUN school. Lex, during his active duty days, had been the Executive Officer at that school."

Um... That's pretty cool right there.

I'm sorry for your loss as well. I've only been flying a few years, but I already know people that have died doing it. It's a dangerous undertaking defying gravity, but well worth the risk.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
    And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air. . . .

Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or ever eagle flew —
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

    — John Gillespie Magee, Jr

    RIP Lex

My condolences to you and your friend's family, amigo. :patriot:
I suggest that when you comrade gets to Heaven, St. Peter will call out, "Make way for a fighter pilot!" and they'll fling the gates open.

That's a shame. But it sounds like he had a great life and a quick death. Maybe a warrior funeral/celebration is in order.

    Abso-freakin-lutely.

If we can't celebrate how this man lived and died, there's something really wrong with us. Here's to doing your favorite thing right up until the second you buy the farm.

I don't use this language much, but, it's the only thing I can think of.

Such a shame. A damned shame. Rest In Peace, Captain. Thank you for your service to this great nation, and for helping to keep us Free.
