My husband and I are idly discussing maybe adopting another kitten. Last time we adopted was over 10 years ago and the fee was about 25 dollars. The kitten was not neutered and had only basic vet care. Now, all shelter kittens come already fixed and stuffed full of shots. The cost of adoption is between 65 and 95 dollars, depending on the shelter. Needless to say, anybody with free kittens looking for homes finds them new homes literally within hours. I wonder how many people are just not bothering to adopt shelter animals because of the jump in adoption fees. Spaying and neutering are major surgeries and I prefer to have my own vet do it. He discounts his fees if you prove you have adopted the kitten or puppy, ditto for shots and basic care. Most vets do this. We looked at purebred kittens, but a good one costs $600.00 and honestly, I'd rather adopt a homeless kitty. Opinions, anybody?
