Just picked up my new OD G21 "locally" (200 miles, but it was a nice drive) for $525. I thought that was a decent deal with a free Glock range bag and cap. Anyway...
    21.gif
My plan is to do a Franken-Glock and have 10mm-.45ACP swap-uh-bility (wasn't going to look it up). I'm an outdoors guy (10mm) and an 1911 guy (plenty of .45 laying around), and I reload. I know there are a number of issues concerning frame weights and barrels and the like. Some use a 10mm barrel in a 21 slide and call it good with no issues. Others get a separate "upper" for each caliber (complete slide, barrel, spring). Then there's conversion barrels and extrators and yadda yadda, and the rest say just get two guns. Unfortunately, that's not a financial/marital option :).

SO...since I can't figure out how to post a poll...

For those have attempted the Franken-Glock (and aren't going to jack the thread into why 10mm or .45 aren't good calibers) where did you end up? I'm going to learn from your mistakes so thank you very much!

(I understand that some of these options may not be options at all because they're not possible due to size perhaps but I'm not 100% on them so I'll include them anyway.)

    1) Got a .45-10mm conversion barrel for my G21.
    2) Got a 10mm-.45 conversion barrel for my G20 (never seen one...).
    2) Got a 21 slide and barrel for my G20 frame.
    3) Got a 20 slide and barrel for my G21 frame.
    4) Put a 10mm barrel in a G21 slide.
    5) Put a .45 barrel in a G20 slide (not sure it'll fit the slide hole...). CONFIRMED NOT POSSIBLE
    6) Got two guns.

    Thanks in advance!

    Congrats.......below is my G21sf RTF2 gone NUCLEAR!
    Storm Lake G20 barrel

    p.s.

You can put the G20 barrel in the G21 slide, you can NOT put the G21 barrel in the G20 slide.
Breech faces are different. I plan to run this for a bit, will eventually get a KKM 6" 10mm conversion barrel.

Very nice. So that works well and you didn't replace the recoil spring just added a 10mm barrel or is that a conversion barrel?

Let me get this straight... you can buy a G-21 in .45 ACP and then drop in a 10mm barrel to make is a quasi- G-20? I've been sitting on the fence thinking about if I really want a G-21, but if this is the correct understanding of what I think is being said, then it sounds like with just a barrel you end up having .45 ACP and 10mm in the same pistol. Is this correct? Is there anything else that must be done? Sincerely. Brucev. (To the OP... if this comment is inappropriate, please delete it. Sincerely. Brucev.)

Negative you need a "conversion" barrel a factory G20 barrel will not just drop in and work in a G21 slide/gun.

Bruce that's excatly what I'm trying to confirm. No problem if you want to tag along!

It looks as if the barrels faawrenchbndr mentioned are $160 from Storm Lake.

I've heard that it can be done but maybe should not be done, but have no idea. Can you expand a bit?

"Faawrenchbndr" already covered the reason in his post. :wavey:

Sorry Fire, but above his picture he says he did exactly what you say cannot be done...G21 with a G20 aftermarket barrel in it."

Which of you is confused? He did not specify that his barrel was a conversion barrel (in fact he just said G20) so I'm assuming that it is not.

I lost that argument last week. :faint:
A Glock, KKM, LWD, Storm Lake G20 barrel WILL function fine in a G21.

Well then I guess I stand corrected. I thought it "had" to be a conversion barrel as the breech faces are different. :dunno:

    Learn something new everyday........

Is your SL barrel a regular G20 barrel or a "conversion" barrel? :wavey:

And that's what you did? Not a conversion barrel? If so, that is awesome. I just need some G20 mags...

You know me,....I went off with both barrels and got cut off at the knees! :faint:

It's a straight up G20 10mm barrel. Bought it just to try it out before spending a bit more on a threaded 6" barrel.

Thanks. I've been there and every other 5th post was helpful, the rest were seemingly made out of ignorance. I was hoping to hear from people who had actually done it and found the best configuration that worked for them (such as yourself).

    P.S. Zombieland references...very cool.
