Yep, I can't sleep. I arrived at the hotel about 23:00. As per my usual routine, I do a bedbug search before I even bring my luggage past the doorway. The room has two beds. I search the first bed and find nothing. I decide to search the second bed just as a precaution even though I don't plan on sleeping in it. The mattres looked ok, but then as I remove the headboard from the wall there it was. The disgusting parasite was there under the mounting lip. I also found a shed skin possibly from the same bug nearby. I called the front desk and told them to come to the room so I could show them.

Anyway, I am in a different room and didn't find any bugs in this one. I have a hard time sleeping knowing they are in the same building however.

As soon as you get back home strip naked in front of the washer and dryer, throw everything either in both the washer and dryer, or just the dryer on high heat to kill any possible eggs/bugs.

The thought did cross my mind. I decided against the use of fire due to the possibility of an arson charge.

found colony(>30) of bed bugs in hampton inn in houston, in september, our first experience, they were very obvious, three sizes, nothing else looks like them. called manager, got another room.
wife suggested leaving luggage outside of room until after inspection.
a week later traveled to maritime provinces for 10 days, mostly b&b.
did the inspection thing - tearing off 4 corners of sheets, sliding mattress back, using surefire 9p 200 lumen, looking in the folds of the mattress, never found another bed bug.
came home unpacked outside, everything into washer, black trash bagged luggage, left in sun for three days.
even if you do due diligence, bed bugs can hitch ride on your luggage next to infected luggage in airplane cargo hold.
in rooms set lugggage on luggage stand or on table, never on floor.
literature says very hard to get rid of once in your home.
    cannot use strong pesticides.
diatomacious earth probably one of the best ways, but not rapid.

So are bedbugs "new", or is this latest craze about them just sort of fed by the internet and instant news?

I mean, really, "don't let the bedbugs bite" when going to bed has been told by parents to kids for how many centuries?

um, why couldnt you just get refunded and go to another hotel? I'm sure that the mention of a lawsuit they would be happy to oblige.

It is getting widespread again because "good" pesticides are no longer permitted to be used.

Just like how West Nile from mosquitoes has made a comeback.

Bedbugs were almost eradicated from this country 50 years ago through the use of DDT. They have made a comeback with the banning of effective pesticides and increased international travel and immigration.

This is a company provided hotel. I don't pay a dime. 2 weeks ago i complained to the company about a different hotel when I found bug fecal stains on the boxspring cover. Their solution was to move us to another hotel with a bigger bedbug problem.

I like your gameplan, I have a trip coming up and I will probably do the same inspection as soon as I enter the hotel room too.

Bedbugs give me the hebbee jeebees.

I had a trick or treater come to the house last night, a little boy, maybe 5 years old dressed up like a bug, and his older sister dressed up in footie PJs, it took me a second to get the joke, but when I did I laughed my ass off.

I heard once that the average American will swallow nine spiders in his sleep, in his lifetime. How many do you guys think you are up to? Eric
