Ford to Discontinue AM Radios in Most New Vehicles Starting in 2024

Do you still listen to AM radio from time to time? I do, but don't drive Ford either. Guess you would have to install an aftermarket am/fm radio in it.

Ford plans to drop AM radios from most of its new vehicles starting in 2024, raising concerns about public safety communication. The automaker had previously announced plans to drop the AM radio from its electric vehicles due to “interference” between the electric drive train and AM reception.

I listen to all of my Conservative Talk Radio shows on AM. And will continue to do so. My newest motor vehicle is 20 years old. So no Problemo.

Haven’t bought a Ford since 1982…

oh wait… I bought a beater Ford Ranger in 1994, it only came with an AM radio, and the only thing that worked in it…

At my age I don't think I'll be buying any car new enough to worry about this. Mine will be paid off in six months and it just might be the last car I finance. YMMV. tom.

I can’t get am stations in my 2019 Mustang so losing that tuner will be no great loss

Guess new Ford owners won’t be hearing the music that goes along with all those synchronized Christmas light shows either. Ford officially hates Jesus.

AM radio listener here too…
An AM radio signal is your nemesis? It maybe time for some new engineers in the drivetrain department

But on the bright side, @Ramjet38 won't have to do this if he ever trades his old Ford in....

My wife just got a brand new Top of the line Tundra Capstone and I am not even sure if it has a radio at all.

It does have this huge iPad like display where a radio, heater controls and maybe another dozen or so old time controls would be.

The first thing she does when she gets in is connect her Smart(yeah, right) phone, I suppose using bluetooth.
Dont know if she plays her music from her phone, or from the huge distractingly iPad on the dash. All I know is that I don't see a tuner knob anywhere!

I'll stick with my old grungy dodge pickup. It has knobs!

How am I going to listen to weird radio stations after midnight while out in the sticks?

Y'know, those ones that keep you awake long enough to find a Waffle House on those deserted interstate exits for a 20 oz coffee?

The walls are closing in I tell ya.

Yup, they complain about "distracted driving" if you talk on your phone or eat a burger while going down the road, but then put something in the cars where it's easier to post a video link on GT than put the defrosters on in yer truck.

I'm almost 50 years old... So not a child... I didn't know AM radio was still a thing. I've NEVER even got a channel to come in without static... And that was YEARS ago, when I was a kid, trying to find an AM station.

...I also live in the south, in the sticks, about 40 miles from a town, and I NEVER not been able to pick up my favorite radio station. Where are some of y'all living that you still listen to AM radio?? 🤣🤣

CD player, yeah, that pissed me off... AM radio, no... You can go ahead and keep that.

That's about all I listen to 90% of the time. Talk radio. They broadcast in FM too, but talk radio sounds better to me on AM.
