So after reading all the stipple post I decided I wanted to try it out to see just how easy/hard it really was. And I thought I'd post this to give you all ideas on how to practice the technique. I choose to see just how much the stippling actually makes a difference by stippling something I use very often with sweaty hands, my xbox 360 controller. The before and after are truely night and day! I wanted to pass this idea along for anyone out there wanting to practice the technique or wanting to see if you'll like it. You can try it on just about any plastic. It really does take a steady hand, and if you are going to do it on something with a light color be careful not to hold the soldering iron in one place too long or you will get brown spots. (I had a few). I sanded with 150grit sandpaper after it really cleaned it up and made it feel a little less aggressive.

    Very NICE!.

A few things I've learned. You can buy buy soldering irons that have shorter ends so you can get better accuracy. Sort of like a stubby screw driver. I bought one of these http://www.scrap-masters.com/creative-versatool-kit25-watt-120v-p-23768.html from a local hobby shop. As long as you get one thats 25 watts or higher you should be golden. You can get one designed for wood burning. plastic cutting, leather burning, etc.

The one I linked came with a bunch of custom tips I can't wait to try out. They also sell all kinds of tips in packs (American Flag, Heart, Checkering) to name a few. I think a stippled heart or a few hearts on a pink glock could be cool for someone. OR a small flag to mark your gun so you know it's yours would be cool too.

For now, for me anyway I'm going to keep the stippleing to non gun related things. Decal Grip works fine and is removable for resale.

How do you stipple a metal frame? A punch and a hammer?
