I can remember when Krystal's were 10 cents and if you wanted cheese, they were 12 cents.
I remember those, but I havn't seen one in ages.
Although there is one just down the road, I haven't been to one since the Nixon administration.
i remember enjoying(?) Krystal burgers and tiny chili dogs back in the day when I lived around Nashville... they had a bunch of them.
Krystal is a copy (rip off) of White Castle.
Davenport had visited Chicago's White Castle restaurants, taking notes of successful features, before setting forth on his own venture. Davenport and Sherrill set up the first Krystal at the corner of 7th and Cherry Streets in Chattanooga. The first Krystal was a modular building constructed in Chicago and shipped to Chattanooga for final installation. The oldest Krystal still in operation is located on Cherokee Boulevard in Chattanooga's Northshore District. Krystal is the seventh or eighth-oldest hamburger chain in the United States (the oldest being White Castle) and the oldest in the South.
100 Krystal burgers for $8.99.
Oh, that Krystal. Anybody stupid enough to want to be copy of White Castle should go bankrupt.
No! Not even close! WC is much better. I lived up north at one time. I’d microwave frozen White Castles before I’d eat Krystal’s from their restaurant.
Plus (and mainly) WC is the best 3am drunk food in the world.
Never heard of ‘em.
“...... blamed rising labor costs and online delivery competition as factors leading to its bankruptcy......”
It’s pretty amazing how fast change is occurring in many different fields, due to consumer-driven demand.
Where's the beef?
I have not eaten there in a few years. I used to eat a lot of them when I was broke and inebriated. I don't know if the quality has gotten worse or if soberity makes a difference.
Never been to one but it was a sad time for me when all the white castles around here closed. I used to buy crave cases every now and then. I knew they were in trouble when the price got up beyond what you could buy a couple good pizzas for.
Me too. They tasted like crap then, and they really taste like crap now. The last time I bought some I wound up throwing them out.
That has not been my experience with Krystal. I had several of their hamburgers a couple of months ago and they were very good. I don't have them that often now.
They became run poorly. One near me ran out of buns once. Another one would shut down for 15 minutes at shift change so they could perform shift change operations. Whatever that means.
Then another one stopped serving dinner at close, but then served only dinner when they opened in the morning at 5am and didn't start breakfast until 6am.
I kept trying different locations and kept being disappointed. So I gave up
A little off topic but do any of you guys live in a region where they sell the steamed hamburgers with cheese in the middle of them?
Oniony goodness. Double cheese Krystals hold the mustard , add ketchup, extra pickles.
White Castles same way.
A little off topic as well but I was at an Arby's a few years ago and placed my order at the drive thru. When I arrived at the pick-up window, the girl told me they were out of roast beef. I thought for a second that she was kidding. She wasn't. She told me they had been very busy that day (more than usual) and just ran out. They had another roast beef cooking but it would be another hour or so before it was ready. For me trouble she gave me my drink for free.
I haven't eaten fast food in years, but in my mind they're all the same.
I eat fast food and then for some reason, I'm no longer hungry. So I guess it works.
