I cooked meatloaf burgers tonight -

My mom use to make them - used her meatloaf recipe - but instead of cooking the loaf in the oven made them into patties and cooked them in a frying pan.

I think she did it to make a pound of burger make more burgers - but they were good - better than a plain burger.

My wife had them as a child too - one night I wanted to make a meatloaf - wife said she didn't want that - how about you make meatloaf burgers. Been having them every few months since then --

I can't eat them without thinking back to when I was a kid.

Fried potatoes is another - my mom cooked them all the time - I can't make them without thinking about my mom. I usually let one or two burn black on one side and still be raw on the other - just like she made them.

What are some dishes you had as a kid that stand out - do you still make them now?

I think that's mostly lost for me. There was just too much change when I left home.

When the strawberries in the garden were ripe -

My mom would make strawberry short cake - maybe it was just a white cake I don't know.

She would mix up a big bowl of cut up strawberries with about a pound of sugar

Then take a pint of cream and whip it up -

Fresh bakes cake - fresh strawberries and home made whip cream -

When we ran out of cake we would just have a dish of strawberries and whip cream that was fantastic stuff.

Full of sugar and fat - I ate like a horse and was still skinny.

Not a food, but when I was a kid my Mom got us these chewable Vitamin C tablets, and they were super citrusy and sour, and every time I think of them I salivate under my tongue, in fact I just did.

My dad was a meat and poultry wholesaler. We ate meat and poultry every night. Sometimes it was a part of the animal that nobody wanted.

Liver and onions was a big part of our childhood. Sill like it. We also ate a lot of Kentucky Fried Chicken because my dad sold them a lot of chicken.

They're still good. It's my preferred snack in the hunting bag.

Mom didn't set out to cook it that way, but that's how it ended up.

Fried slices of Spam and Kraft macaroni and cheese. It's what my Dad made EVERY time my Mom wasn't home to make dinner.

Hated it back then, now I like it. Go figure!
