Just wondering how many of you have dumped your hard wired land lines due to the never ending stream of solicitation/robo calls that became the preponderance of calls.
Replacing the land line with cell phones. But now the cell isnt immune to the invasive calls.

"Land Line" has an answering machine, we don't pick up unless you start to leave a message....

Got rid of land line at home but still get telemarketer calls on my cell and occasional calls from people who have gotten calls from my number via spoofed telemarketer calls they have received. BTW, I'm qualified to replace all my credit cards at 0% interest, so that's pretty sweet.

I dumped my landline for two reasons:
    1. The kids got old enough to dial 911 on a cell, which can be more involved than on a landline.
    2. I got tired of paying $45/month for a phone I didn't use.

When we moved from our last house to the temp townhouse, we dumped the landline.

We didn’t even wire RJ11 jacks in the new house.

I see an RJ11 jack and I think, "oh that's quaint".

Without a booster cell phone reception is crappy where I am at. I use the landline for local calls and to call in power outages, they have a thing for that. I also use the landline to send faxes. Cell phone for just about everything else.

Cell phone tech and app innovation is catching up to the spammers.

T-mobile offers free “spam block” that a user can activate from their phone that gets rid of some of it, and the latest Apple IOS 13 update has “silence unknown callers” that sends numbers not known to your device straight to voicemail. Numbers you have in your contacts and numbers associated to search results will ring through regularly. That is also free.

Spam calls and number spoofing are definitely a nuisance, but with attention being paid to defeating them there are improvements being made.

I don’t give out my cell number to very many people at all so I don’t want to be without a land line.

I get more spam calls on my cell phone than I ever got on a land line.

If "smart" phones really were smart, they wouldn't let spam calls ring through.

I dumped the land line about 10 years ago. I don't get many BS calls on my cell phone, but I just learned from the other thread that I can turn on the "silence unknown caller" button and eliminate even those.

I am using an iphone. and I stll get more spam calls that real ones.
If I enable silence unknown caller option, new customers would not be able to get through, so I am stuck with "This is an important call. Do not hang up!"

When my dad died in 1994, we found this in his closet. AFIK, he had been paying rent on it for years.

I dumped our land line about 15 years ago and have never looked backed. It had nothing to do with spam calls. I just couldn't justify 2 phone bills......a cell bill and a land line bill. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
