LoL. Love those things
had one as a pet when I was a kid. it was orphaned when a neighbor's dog killed the momma.
I think squirrels are much more entertaining than birds. If we had made of them here I would set up squirrel feeders instead of bird feeders.
I would be OK with them if they didn’t chew up the bird feeders. I even had one trapped on our screened in back porch. He was obviously not the smartest one because we have two German Shepherds.
Just get one of these Yankee Flipper feeders. One of these and a six pack of Bud is a cheap date with lots of entertainment. I had to add a little weight to the perch to keep the little red squirrels out of mine.
My daughter had two flying squirrels she saved from the cats, at different times. She had a huge cage for them.
They are nocturnal animals and would raise hell in that cage all night long.
My Uncles kept flying squirrels for pets. They are said to be readily tameable, much nicer than common tree rats.
There is only one squirrel in the neighborhood in which I live. He resides in a nest in a tree in my front yard and has become a bit of a pet. I keep some raw pecans and raw peanuts handy for him for when he comes out on the warmer days in the winter. I also help him stock up his supplies throughout the year.
He/she is the only one in the neighborhood. Not enough to be a nuisance.
I will miss the little guy when he is gone.
OMG. I'll admit I had to look at it while...
I'm afraid I would have to put on my heavy duty leather work gloves and rescue that little guy.
Maybe pull up the pole and let him figure it out when I laid it flat.
That or sterilize my pocket knife and cut him free, but I couldn't leave him.
I had a dealer that had one as a pet.
We would fire up and watch the little dude run and climb all around the room.
we named ours "Hawkeye" as he had quite large, beady black eyes, and it was M*A*S*H era.
he would climb up the curtains on one side of our living room and "amp up" [picture "getting up the nerve"] to jump across the room to land on our shirt, our lap or skid across my Dad's bald head. he was INCREDIBLY soft when we tickled him. [for the record, he didn't love that.]
We had him for at least five years before he died.
That pretty much describes the scene except we were all sitting in a circle, in an old house freezing.
Bit we were happy!
I've lost count of how many orphaned squirrels my wife has raised and then released into the wild. They do some funny things. I'd much rather watch the squirrels on a feeder than the birds.
Squirrel chucker, good fun
Double your pleasure.... feed the birds to the squirrels!
Squirrels are useful as well as ornamentals...
