I read several articles on generator deaths and others hospitalized in Florida and I think some in South Carolina. Each case, these people were running their generators inside there homes. WTF-no common sense! A Florida news agency interviewed a neighbor and she said the 'community' does not allow generators. Screw these home owners associations. Hot and humid and you cant run a generator for basic needs of survival in a crisis. Years ago during Ike, I got a dispatch for a neighbor complaining about the others noisy generator. There was no power for about two weeks. The reporting party refused name and number or else I would have called them back to tell them they are stupid. Im sure would have resulted in a complaint that I wouldnt care about.

If a neighbor tried to stop me from running a generator on my property during or after a hurricane, I'd empty the magazine into them.

Places with lights on have their generators stolen from the back yard. Death is but a small part to pay to be comfortable.

Every storm, I find it ridiculous that the PSA's go out about running generators indoors - yet every storm, people die doing it. In some cases, whole families get wiped out. Then there are the people using their propane grills indoors. It's....I don't know. I don't know what to say about that.

Each generator also has a BIG, government-mandated label on like this:

Notice the line "CAN KILL YOU IN MINUTES".

    And yet.......

I do understand that some people run them too close to their homes and they get killed. Lots of people don't realize that almost all houses are negative-pressure so they tend to suck air in. The result is that the gen needs to be AWAY from the house.

The problem is people. Not laws and not generators.

    Nature abhors an intellectual vacuum.

That's a special kind of stupid.

    True ignorance.

Unfortunately others pay the price too. Other people in the homes.

    This. Often children.

The case I know of a child was sleeping while the generator was running outside his bedroom. Exhaust got in and he first had a seizure, then once that was over and he went back to sleep he died. CO poisoning was the cause.

    Sickening to think about.

    Ron White said it best...
    "You can't fix stupid"
Although in this case stupid fixes itself.
It's not just Florida.... it's everywhere.

I know of a situation where a generator was stolen from the open trunk of a Sheriffs Dept. Crown Vic.

And if you left the generator outside, someone would steal it

All I can figure is that they are afraid that the folks with the new sneakers will steal their generators and hence run them indoors. :)

The house we had in Miami had an exhaust port on the wall near the garage door. I used flex pipe to connect the generator exhaust. I also had a carbon monoxide detector in the garage, lower and upper levels.

Some neighbors in Georgia burned their hose down by deep frying a turkey in the garage. Seems he omitted the step where you calculate the displacement of the turkey when putting in the oil.

i read one HOA community and some business property owners would not allow tenants/home owners to close shudders or board up for the hurricane in FL.
