I signed up for my very first GSSF match on Sept 27 & 28. I've read the GSSF web site several times and I'm going to a class this Saturday at the same location that teaches the different match types (IDPA, GSSF and USPSA). Anyone care to share any tips or advice for a first timer.

Have fun. Your only competitor is yourself, so do the best you can and be proud of it.

The mechanics of hitting the target are very well covered in several threads in this forum. I don't know if you are an accomplished shooter or haven't finished your first box of ammo yet, so I'll just say, "Have fun".

Shoot straight, don't worry about the timer and have fun. Oh yeah, bring a chair!

I'm a little beyond my first box of ammo (over 1400 rds) but not quite an accomplished shooter. Just started shooting again after a long absence. I can consistently shoot a bullseye target at 15yrds and cover all the holes with my fist which is a lot better than I was doing when I started shooting again almost 2 months ago. I just can't seem to group them in the center of the target :( but they are almost always within the 8 ring of the target.

What do you do with all your gear when you get there, leave it in the car untill needed? Carry it around? Pick a spot with a view and break oput the umbrella and lounge chair?

Most shooters carry their pistol(s) and ammo in a gun bag, and carry a lightweight folding chair. The match at conyers moves along pretty quickly, so there are few long waits. Hope to see you there!

i finally started doing ok in gssf when i was able to concentrate on every shot. you will do pretty well if you can do that, no matter how fast you shoot. dont pull that trigger until you know thr shot is on center....the last thing you should worry about is the timer.
