Well I never thought the day would come. I've always been a "metal" gun guy...Berettas and 1911s pretty much. I picked up an H&K USP a few months back and realized "plastic" guns arent all bad!

Anyway, I've been wanting to replace my Beretta as my carry gun since its very "fat", and wanted something slim. I was pretty sure I'd go with a Walther in .40. However, I shot my fathers Glock 26 this past weekend and really saw what all the hype was about. I liked it A LOT.

SO, I went to the gun shop today and picked up a Glock 30. I love the .45 cartridge and its very slim and light, so after a few range sessions with it Im planning to carry with it. I ordered a Desantis OWB holster and a Crossbreed IWB holster for it already.

And since I was there, I figured I needed to give it a friend, so I grabbed a Glock 21 too. Havent shot either yet, but I plan to remedy that tomorrow.

Will the Glock 37 magazines work in the G21? I saw a few used ones at the LGS I was going to grab, but wanted to check first. I know the 45 GAP rounds are shorter than the 45 ACP rounds, so Im assuming the answer is no?

Anything in particular to look out for with these pistols? I'd say my biggest gripe so far is the slide release "lever" (more of a "tab" really). I have small hands and its really tough to release the slide using the lever...especially compared to my Berettas. Is there any aftermarket fix for this? Thatd be the first thing I'd want to address.

Sorry for the bad pics, I'll take some more at the range tomorrow.

I hope you enjoy your new pistols, as you've definitely jumped in with both feet.

No, the G37 (mags) are for a different cartridge, the 45GAP, not the 45ACP, very different sized frame/mags.

Congratulations and welcome! As far as the slide stop lever, there is an extended slide stop that allows it to protrude further. But some think that it can interfere with draw for CCW, especially with an IWB holster. Some places to try are glockstore.com, glockmeister.com, and glockparts.com. I'm sure there are plenty of other sources as well.

Also, I'm sure someone will chime in and say that it's not a slide release, it's a slide stop. :whistling:

    YMMV

    Oops, I wrote G30 up above on accident...it is infact a G36.

The G30 is the subcompact .45 that will accept G21 mags, correct? I handled both the G30 and G36 and was real torn...I like that the G30 takes G21 mags but I couldnt pass up the "slim-ness" of the G36.

Maybe I'll add a G30 to the mix soon enough

Correct, the G30/SF does accept G21 magazines.

It was not designed to be a slide release. It is designed to function as a slide stop and allow you to lock the slide rearward. There are other options that will stick out more that will allow it to function more as a slide release.

The best aftermarket fix for this is the slingshot method.

Thanks guys. I'll take everyones advice and give it a chance before replacing the slide stop. Im just so used to be able to easily release the slide with my thumb on the Berettas and H&K, but I'll definitely shoot these for a while before doing anything.

Finally got them to the range today, about 250 rounds through the pair.

Wow, Im very pleased! I've never been a great shooter, but these pistols (especially the G21) make me look better than I am.

The G36 is quite snappy, it isnt something I'd want to shoot all day at the range but a fun and accurate little gun. I did have about 5 stovepipes happen (out of maybe 75 rounds fired). I was using junk WWB and Federal ammo, so I blame it on that. It was a bit of a mix so Im not sure if it was the Winchester or Federal doing it. Anybody had that issue? I'm going to clean it real well tonight, lube it up and put another 100-150 rounds through it tomorrow morning.

Overall Im very happy, the G21 shoots like a dream and the nice wide grip makes it very manageable with .45 ACP. Great shooters!
