Man, that was fun. Well, the second half was. The first half was another mountain of paperwork while being yelled at.

Deputy Warden of a nearby prison made a speech, as did the Warden of the prison our academy is connected to.

The K9 team came in and did an attack demonstration with two of their German Shepards. One on the leash, one off the leash. It’s one thing to see on TV and a whole other ball game to see up close. We all laughed when the K9 Captain yelled to the CO about to get bit “Wait! Drop your gear and throw on these prisoner scrubs, we can’t have them thinking they can bite COs!”

Then we did a bunch of drill on the PT pad and were sectioned off into classes of 30, which will be our classes for the remainder of the academy, and met our two instructors. Tough as nails, but it’s clear they want to do their best to prepare us for what’s to come.

Some final stuff was issued to us, then we were dismissed. A couple days off and then back at it again.

Maybe this should be on the Cop Talk forum instead of a civilian forum??

If so, I don’t have a problem with it. I wasn’t sure if it would belong there since COs aren’t really cops, plus I like you guys in the Okie a bunch.

Always stay behind the dog. Always. Brother you are about to enter a world very few know about. You’ll see, hear and smell things you never thought possible. I wish you much success. It takes a special person to do what you’re doing.

My son is a relatively new Army MP...
Your first day sounds like a condensed version of his first day at BCT...then AIT...then when he reported to his first duty station and did a refresher of what he did in BCT and AIT.

It is said loud because it’s important. It is repeated because it is important and keeps you safe.

Listen, soak it up, live it... resist the temptation to “get through” training and decide to get everything you can get out of it. If something happens down the line you will revert to your training...so make yourself the example others try to live up to.

Every time I speak to my son I tell him to “MP the hell out of it today”... when he was in BCT and AIT it was “Army the hell out of it”. I did it trying to be funny and supportive, but it’s true. This is an important part of your new career...CO the hell out of it!

and I hope to never meet you at work...
