In the first vid from 1:05 to about 1:12, did I see what I think I saw? Holy Crap!

It looked like the pilot in the first video came down in the fireball. :(

Any story on whether the pilot managed to get away from the flames?

Even though I haven't done that for years, still gets my heart rate up watching someone drop it in the spud locker...

In my last job, before I pulled the plug, I was a flight lead to take students to the boat for CQ in the T45. One of the last parts of the brief was letting them watch a movie that was a collection of ramp strikes, screwed up waveoffs (into the 6 pack, etc.) and cold cat shots. It was pretty sobering and they really paid attention in the brief after that...

Well, here's to hoping he was fast enough on his feet to get out of that mess!

    I only have two words:

    Oh CRAP!!!!!

I've always heard that anybody can re-create a night carrier landing, at home.

    Time: 0300
    Place: Your empty 2-car garage.
    Tools needed: One postage stamp.

Place postage stamp in the middle of the garage floor, 'sticky side' - up.

Go to the light switch and make certain ALL lights are off and garage is dark. (Pitch black.)

Now, hold out your arms, as if they were wings.
    Stick out your tongue.
Run towards where you placed the stamp, and jump towards the stamp and TRY to lick it, as you hit the garage floor, face first.

IF you can lick that stamp, you're ALMOST as ballsy as a Naval Aviator!!!

    Almost.

According to the Youtube comments section: (I'm a dude using the wife's account) my name is Fleming and I was in VFA 27. I was standing in the cat walk when this crash happened and I manned a hose team. I was glad to hear that the pilot survived.

I can't verify if this is correct.
