I've been reading, comparing and watching videos on all sorts of guns for a few months now. Early on I narrowed it down to a Glock for all the reasons most of you already know. It also didn't take me long to decide on a G27 and then Gen 4 over 3.

So I picked it up yesterday and have been fondling it all day. Even though I know it's generally thought of as acceptable to dry fire modern firearms but I picked up some snap caps anyway and have been blissfully practicing my trigger pull. I haven't even fired a round yet and I can already see what people are talking about when they say "glock knuckle." I'm definitely going to have to build up a callus.

Tentative plans to shoot on Friday. I'll be sure to update with my experience but I'll make a prediction as to what it will be: "damn that was a good time!"

Congrats! Nothing wrong with snap caps. I use em all the time to practice malfunction drills and such. Sorry brother, Friday is a long wait but I look forward to your report.

Congrats on your new 27. I myself just got back into Glocks and bought a gen4 27 after purchasing a gen4 23. I love them both and the 27 is my new daily ccw. I predict you will love your new gun.

    Congratulations on your new Glock.
We are a visual bunch here at GlockTalk.
And have an un-written requirement for pictures of new weapons - LOL!

I have and love my G27 too.
She's been going through some changes...

    Sounds good!
Let us know what ammo you like...

I hated anything less than 180gr ammo in my G27.

180 had less bark and snap than the 165 or 155 loads...for me.

And yes....eventually, you have to post pics!

congrats...the 27 is a good choice. soon enough, you'll need a 23 to accompany it.

Got to the range yesterday. Had a blast. Pun definitely intended.

I went with a buddy who's got a Taurus 9mm (can't remember the model.) Spent an hour and shot 200 rounds. The damn thing bit me early on but that wasn't enough to stop the fun.

I had brought along 150 rnds of 180gr and 50 rnds of 165. I'm guessing that it has something to do with my being new to handgun shooting but I honestly could not tell a bit of difference. I still have no idea what people mean by "snap" and "push" when they say one weight is better than another.

I did the majority of my shooting at 5yds, a little less at 10 and less still at 20 which is the range's max. Overall I did as well as to be expected for a novice. Mostly low and left which I gather is the norm for those new to the sport. I was able to get 6 rounds into a 6" circle at 20yds. I wasn't counting but I would guess that took 25 or so shots. I definitely have to get some bigger targets for that distance so I can tell where the bullets are going.

My buddy and I swapped weapons for a magazine and that was interesting. I was expecting more of a difference in the felt recoil but attribute the similarity to the bore being higher on his Taurus. The triggers were also nothing alike which was unexpected. Both being striker fired I imagined them having similar actions. I guess I've got a lot to learn. I'm eager to do so luckily and will be not so patiently waiting for my next range trip.

PS. I initially had a typo in that last sentence, it came out as "rage trip" and I thought that was too funny not to share.

glad you like your 27. I have a 22 and a 23 on hold right now. Natural order says I will have a 27 some day.

Its funny, my first trip out, I too shot a Taurus and thought the gun was broke, because of the trigger pull being nothing like the Glock.

Keeo shooting and have fun. I have been at least once a week since I finally got to the range. It can make for some great alone time. I took my 7 year old this morning with a new Ruger. Fun times.

I use white poster board you can buy at Dollar Store, WM, etc...3 for a dollar. You can put a regular target inside of it, or if your artistic you can draw an alien or whatever with a sharpie. I usualy draw a head and torso, life sized from the belt up. 2 to the body 1 to the head works.

    Love my G27.

It's one of my "I WILL NEVER PART WITH GUNS!!!"

    Mick:thumbsup:
