The Wife and I joined a range last year that has a bunch of steel pistol targets set up in multiple bays, and have really enjoyed ringing the steel. She has enjoyed it so much she's expressed an interest in possibly trying some of the local steel matches. So last weekend we burned through a little over 500 rounds in various handguns to see what she liked and her favorites were our Gen4 G19s & G35, but she wanted a better trigger and no finger grooves.

What this in mind, we headed to Bud's just up the road in Sevierville, just to see if anything jumped out at her. To be honest, I was rather hoping she would choose a CZ Shadow 2, or even a TSO, but she just wasn't comfortable with either of them. The DA/SA of the Shadow 2 bothered her, as did the need to manually lower the hammer (her SDP and P-01 have decockers) and the ergonomics of the TSO were close, but not quite right.

Then, on a hunch, I suggested she try the Sig "X-Five" Legion they had on the wall, and it was love at first meeting. She liked every element of the pistol and flat loved the trigger. Considering I've been tempted by this same model for a few months, when she said "You can buy me one of these", and they told me they still had one new in the box in the warehouse, I just grabbed a 4473 and started filling it out.

Just to get this out of the way, while I understand why they call it the "X-Five", I do wish they had left that moniker to the pieces of mechanical art out of Germany. That said, of all the P320 models I've handled, the Legion is by far the best feeling variant by a wide margin.

What did come as a surprise, and a bit of a disappointment, is that it only came with 1 magazine in the box as opposed to the 3 I was expecting. It turns out that COVID has messed with the supply from MecGar in Italy, so you have to register and order the 2 additional mags from Sig just like you do the "Legion" case and coin. Happily, a couple of the local stores have P320 mags in stock, so I'll probably pick a few up on the side.

We are both looking forward to breaking it in next weekend and I really hope it lives up to her hopes.

I don't have a Legion but I do have an M17 and M18. IMHO the best stock out of the box striker fired triggers and ergonomics. The M17 is arguably the pistol I shoot the most accurately. Your wife has excellent tastes..........in pistols:D:D

It's offset by her terrible taste in a husband, so I do all I can to keep her happy!

Understandable. But, to tell a little secret, I was just a little worried about losing an eye to a careless shrug.

I just bought one and my buddy at Shoot Point Blank was able to find one with three magazines. He told me that about the magazines and I was like wtf? Your wife will flat out love the X5 Legion. That thing just wants to shoot fast and is, by far, the flattest shooter I have. I just added a Romeo3 Max to mine but haven't been able to shoot it yet.

    Congrats and have fun!

I like that Sig and I'm not a huge Sig fan. If I were to buy it would be something like that. Cool pistol!

Congratulations. I RSO at a lot of matches and a significant amount of very, very good shooters use that very gun with great success. If I were a striker fired fan, I'd get one in a heartbeat.

Thanks everyone. Hopefully the magazines will ship fairly quickly and Sig included a 25% off code for their webstore as an apology for the missing magazines, so I'll probably pick up a couple of the 21 round magazines with the discount.

Thanks BAC. Hopefully I'll be able to add a true "X-Five" to the collection sometime down the road.

That's great to hear. I've done some research on these since they came out and they certainly do seem to have a strong following.

Weather permitting, we will be breaking it in this weekend. I picked-up 2 of the 21-round magazines and 500 rounds of ammo for our first outing.

I have a feeling I’ll be doing a lot of loading and not much shooting, but that’s ok.
