Well, after years of lusting after the M1 Garand...I finally got one. It's a International Harvester make and it's in pretty decent condition. Here's a crappy iphone pic for proof:supergrin: Can't wait to get some "clips" and ammo and head off to the range!

Very cool. Few rifles are as fun to shoot as the Garand.

I'm going home to Michigan in either late march or April and I'm seriously considering taking a trip down the the North store for a look. It will all depend on how much money I have at the time.

    M1 garands are sweet shooters.

I shot my buddies collector grade M1 Garand last weekend and it was a dream to shoot.

I love the peep sights and I love how well the gun felt when it recoiled.

Welcome to the M1 Club! You'll love the gun and there are not many sounds more distinct than that of an empty M1 clip hitting the ground. "PA-ting"...sweet music for sure.

Watch out about the thumb biting bolt though...all the stories are true..and funny as heck when happens to somebody else.

Almost had a bolt bite before I even got it home. Anyhow, I think I'm in love with my new rifle. BTW, paid $800. Don't know if thats good, bad or average but hell...I got want I wanted.
Oh yeah, is it safe to shoot todays 30.06 ammo thru this or do I need to find a specific cartridge?

Very nice. An M-1 is definitely a must have rifle. It never ceases to amaze me how soft it shoots for a .30-06 and how accurate it is.

The M1 gas system has no regulation and was designed for a specific burn rate and pressure. So, you have to be careful what modern ammo you shoot because you can bend the operating rod if you over charge the action.

Federal makes a 30-06 round specifically for the Garand:

Ive also heard that you can get an adjustable gas plug that will let you shoot the hotter ammo. Ill let one of the experts come in and confirm that though.

You NEED an Schuster's adjustable gas plug. You can bleed the excess gas pressure and use "off the shelf" ammo.

Nice acquisition. This is my correct (and mostly original) 1943 Springfield Armory M1 Garand with my latest addition, a Beretta BM-59.

Sweet.......and for less than the price of two Glocks. I think I'm coming down with
    "M-1 Gotta Have 1" syndrome.

Get a couple of "bullet guides" they tend to wear out and cause timing problems, and don't forget extra firing pins.
