I will probably be banned from here and have my house burned down, but you'll find it's rather disappointing. HH

I had one of those once... it was strictly a hardball gun. I know this, because it wouldn't eat anything other than 230 FMJ loads. When I called Colt, they more or less said "Duh, it's a hardball gun". Silly me, I thought a Delta Elite would be more... forgiving.

That said, it's amazing what some new springs (recoil and firing pin) and a solid detail cleaning can accomplish. This was something I didn't know at the time, figuring I was on the hook for many hundreds in gunsmithing if I wanted it to run 185's. Very foolish of me, I swapped it. C'est la vie.

    Good luck with it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a glock man through and through but when the FIL offers to " loan" me a combat elite I'm not going to turn it down. I wanted to hate it but I do have to say it points like an extension of your arm. Super easy to get on target with fast. Maybe even faster than my glocks.....

That sucks that you had trouble with yours. I have shot this ones twin and it eats everything you put in it. Hopefully this one will also. When did you get yours?

    I thought a Colt Delta Elite was/is a 10mm. Do they make 10mm ammo in 230 gr?

You could buy two Glocks that shoot same round with same accuracy and twice capacity or at least one HK that shoots same rounds with better accuracy and twice capacity.

Ummm..read my original post. Didn't "buy" anything. Great, another "my gun is better than yours because blah blah blah" poster.

I already own 2 glocks that I'm perfectly happy with. Jeez, last time I'll try to share.. Sorry to offend your delicate gun sensibilities. GLOCKS RULE, EXPENSIVE IS BETTER RULES! .... 😒

It's not a Delta Elite (10mm), it's a Combat Elite (.45ACP). I have one and it was my first 1911 as well. Have fun with it and shoot whatever it'll eat. Mine eats everything that I can afford to feed it. Nice pick-up in my book for a first 1911. Don't worry about the haters.

This was in 1990 or thereabouts, I had it for less than a year. It did well enough, but there are so many variables I was ignorant of, like springs, maintenance, and mags. In fact, I think I was using older GI Brown Paper Wrapper 7 shot mags. They weren't new, of that I'm certain, and being that it was my first 1911, the torque upon firing was something I had to get used to as well, being a dedicated wheel gunner until that point. So there was a high likelihood of problems originating with the shooter, i.e. me.

You are correct, good catch. I meant to say Combat Elite, and no, there are no 230 grain 10 mm that I'm aware of... I was referring to good old 45 ACP.
