I have my kids trained in that crap. The first thing they'd ask that kid is, "Do we celebrate Columbus day because he was a nice person?" No, the likely answer. "Did he discover America?" Yes. "Well then, that's why we celebrate it."

At least until they pull that one, too.

But it was Columbus who put it on the map.

But they were smart enough to keep their yaps shut, instead of blabbing about it Spain.

But yeah, "teachers" can get away with most anything in the class room, and 99% of the stuff they do never gets even reported.

The only "discussion" should be which unemployment line to go stand in.

Read the book DOGS OF THE CONQUEST and you’ll see that Columbus was nowhere near the worst Spaniard.

In fact, he seemed to be the most humane among them.

None of the conquistadores were saints -- but neither were the hosts of indigenous peoples they toppled.

Eighty-thousand Native-Americans allied with Hernando Cortez against the Aztecs because there was no love lost for the savage Aztecs.

As far as the concept of land ownership -- the ruling class of the Incas believed they owned "all the land as far as the eye could see."

To a large extent, revisionist history of the New World and the "Natural Man" is a social Utopian fantasy fabricated by French liberals, and carried on into modern popular culture.

Not to say, of course, that there weren't Native-Americans of tremendous substance and honor -- like, say, Tecumseh.

    ...

Centuries of Muslim rule seems to have made the Spanish intolerant.

this is why we need to end the state run education disaster. not only do they mislead and indoctrinate the kids, they out right lie about history. it's time we end this disaster and let market forces sort out education.
