My accounts have not been impacted - but that doesn't mean this isn't a problem.

PITA changing brokers - but maybe I should.

I have always had good service from Fidelity - but this has happened 2x in the last week - one more glitch and I am going to switch.

Who you using - how is their service when the market is stressed like it is today?

    Well, that can’t be good.

    Schwab for 30 odd years.

NEVER had a problem and now trades are free.

Funny, I had accounts at TD Ameritrade and USAA, to spread it around a bit. Schwab just bought both of them ( the brokerage part of USAA ).

Now I’ve got all my eggs in one basket.

I used Schwab maybe 25 years ago - they pissed me off so badly I switched to Fidelity for my main trading account.

    Can't recall exactly why --

I'm happy with Vanguard. Their index funds have extremely low fees, and a couple of years ago I engaged a Vanguard investment adviser who is also very reasonably priced. Getting a financial report from your Vanguard guy saying that you can retire with dignity is one of the great days in a person's life.

Yeah, I would boom boom my panties if I got on the Vanguard website and saw a zero balance. That would be enough for me to jump ship. Seriously.

It means he envies people with phat retirement accounts.

    Trading / Brokerage VS Investment.

If you are self directing I previously had good experience with Schawb’s platform and on-line tools.....but I’m sure a number of the firms can also serve you well.

If you are talking about disciplined longer term systemic investing I have settled comfortably with Merrill Lynch after working through Lehman, JPMorgan, Credit Suisse.
For me at least it was getting someone to “listen” and then communicate well.
If you never or rarely hear from them or don’t hear from them on bad days you probably have the wrong guy /team.
The other problem is scale. It is easy to get overlooked if you are a relatively small fish in a high net worth pool.
They draw you in throw you into their standard system and then you never hear from them.
    Anyway....., good luck

I have Fidelity for my main IRA account, which historically has been good. My account seems to be working this morning... but I wish I hadn't checked it! "Correction" at work...

    Ah, we are totally different.
    You have people doing things.

I don't like people. I would rather do things myself. You would not like Schwab. The only time have talked with people...3 times in 10 years. Password issue (someone trying to break into my account so they locked everything for me to call in) and two questions about the interface. I love them because I have only talked to people 3 times in 10 years. The rest of the time I have been left to do my thing making my money work for me. A few individual stocks, mostly ETFs and mutual funds.

Um where do you think most of us live? Now the argument can be made that the US is heading to 3rd world status, accelerated (potentially) by the election of any of the socialists running for president on the “democratic “ ticket.
