"Deputies: Teen boy killed in shootout with trooper; teen girl charged

16-year-old girl charged with second-degree murder, attempted murder of a law enforcement officer

UPDATED 2:24 PM EDT Jun 15, 2015

COCOA, Fla. —A 15-year-old boy was killed during a traffic stop late Sunday night in Cocoa after exchanging fire with a Florida Highway Patrol trooper, FHP said. Deputies have identified the boy as Zane Terryn, of Palm Bay.

Deputies said Terryn and Morgan McNeil, 16, who were dating, had planned to drive to Ohio to commit suicide.

Deputies said McNeil took a handgun and money from a relative’s home, and the two began driving north on Interstate 95.

They pulled into a Pilot gas station on State Road 520 at I-95 to get food, when a trooper noticed the vehicle’s headlights didn’t work.

Lt. Channing Taylor approached the vehicle and began speaking with McNeil, who was the driver, when Terryn suddenly opened fire, FHP said.

Taylor was hit in the shoulder. He fired one shot at Terryn, killing him, deputies said."

I will be kinder than you by trying to set a good example and take the high road. He might not yet have been a full fledged *****bag and still just be a ****head or a little ****face.

Great job, Lt Taylor.

But why Ohio to commit suicide?

Another reminder that no encounter is ever routine.
