four sticky slick tires do that.

I am not sticking up for one or the other as I like both cars and bikes. Still, you will be hard pressed to find a stock street legal car that can stay with that MV, corner speed included.

BTW, I did not watch the vid as my work has youtube blocked. I will watch when I get home.

Even grand prix bikes can get shown up by a fast race car. But I have a lot of respect for bike racing, it is a thing of beauty.

I remember seeing a comparison of a Grand Prix bike against a grand prix car and there was a large gap between the two.

That has little to do with it. Cars out corner bikes....period. Race cars just do it easier. F1 cars generate 4+ lateral g's. Bikes aren't even close.

I've had this discussion on other bike boards. Bikes do not have the fastest lap times on major tracks.

Four wide tires vs two not so wide = contact patch.

This is true. The best sportsbikes on the road handle no better than bone stock sportscars. Even though the bikes are much faster in a straight line.

F1 cars are incredible. They weigh around 1300 lbs and have close to 1000 horsepower.(2005 spec) Like clydeglide mentioned they can corner with more than 4g of lateral acceleration(on a flat track that is not banked) and can brake with up to 6 g of acceleration!

Bikes are a different animal. Who cares if they can not handle better than a car, they are a blast to ride!

Exactly. Bikes are at a major disadvantage in the corners.

Same applies at the motocross track. The ATV's can go faster, playing Tokyo Drift around the corners... the bikes need a berm to rail.

FWIW, you could have 50 of those bikes for the price of that car, likely.

The bike is by far the best bang for the buck.

Yup. How much $$ do you have to spend to get a car that can do 0-60mph in 3 seconds? A lot more than a bike. Geez, my '81 GS450 does it in less than 4 and I only paid a grand for it!

In addition to contact patch (which might not serve to distinguish race cars from street cars so much) there is also down force distinguishing the race car from the bike.

So if you put a regular production Ferrari up against the motorcycle on the same track.. the Ferrari will win? Why race a F1 car against a stock motorcycle? Why not a stock Ferrari against a stock motorcycle? or better yet a F1 against a Moto GP motorcycle? I have a wmv file out of UK (Made by Sleepy-Fish Productions)where a stock Ducati 999 beat a stock Gallardo. The only reason this F1 smoked a MV is because the MV is stock.

edit: here's the youtube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xE7ib05VqE4

It's not an F1 but it's still an all-out race car. It'd be interesting to see a stock 550 going against the MV F4. I'm not a betting man but I'm willing to bet that the MV would smoke it like a cheap cigar.

I don't know why they raced a race car against a stock street bike either but they did.
