    Felony Snowball Tossing Charges Lodged
Cops: Virginia college students pelted city plow, unmarked police car

FEBRUARY 9--Felony snowball throwing charges have been leveled against two Virginia college students for allegedly pelting a city plow and an undercover police car during Saturday's blizzard. Charles Gill and Ryan Knight, both 21, were nabbed by cops in Harrisonburg, where they attend James Madison University. According to police, the pair first targeted a city plow last Saturday afternoon. The driver responded by calling cops to report the frosty fusillade. When police responded to the scene in a bid to identify the assailants, their unmarked vehicle also came under an icy assault. Gill and Knight, a guard on JMU's basketball team, were then apprehended and booked into jail for throwing missiles at occupied vehicles, a felony. Gill (top) and Knight are pictured below in Rockingham County Sheriff's Office mug shots. If convicted of the felonious snowball tossing, the men each face between one and five years in prison, and a maximum $2,500 fine.

I wonder how the plow driver and responding officers would respond if the culprit was a vehicle in from of them tossing 2 foot of snow and ice mixed from the roofs of their vehicles. If any of you have had this happen you will know it’s not too pleasant and one could loose control of their vehicle pretty quick. It seems as though this incident is being taken a little too far unless there’s more to the story.

I grew up a kid in NYS.

Snow, other kids, cars. You do the math.

I look at the issue as an adult, and think I don't want my kid throwing snowballs at cars. But a felony?

Maybe if you pack the snowball around a rock, or dip it in water and put it in the freezer for a day. Otherwise, a felony?

    Really?

You don't think a felony is a bit much, for stuff like this? Losing gun rights for their whole life, etc?

I'm so glad I decided not to move back to that ****hole of a state....er 'scuse me.......Commonwealth as I had originally planned on.

Funny how living in a free state can change your perspective on things.

Nope... they are 21years old.. not 12. They provoked a plow driver enough to call the police, and then continued. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes..... or so it goes.

I told my story last thread and was chastised by some for defending my wife. Snow with a little bit of water is as hard as a rock, when thrown by capable adults, just as damaging. Were not talking about children playing in the snow. Were talking about grown adults capable of being responsible for their actions. Obviously the law is on the books for a reason. Why should they get a free pass?

You know it's hard enough driving in normal traffic, add the stress of snow and some jackass throwing something at you. What if they broke the window and caused the driver to kill someone. What if the window was open and they incapacitated the driver. Yeah, it's speculation...

I just have no sypathy for little dip****s who throw snowballs at people who don't want to play.

Realistically, they won't do any time and it will be plead down to misdemeanor mischief... but at least there are two ADULTS who won't be doing this again.

It seems like a criminal mischief charge would get the lesson through just as loud and clear -- still get 'em in cuffs, in the back of a car, printed, booked, locked up, fined, whatever -- without the weight of a felony charge being necessary.

I agree they're punks and should be punished! I do! But I guess I just see the word "felony" and think of all the rights someone loses, and it seems a little heavy-handed in this instance.

Not really, in my world I'd beat the living **** out of them and make them wish they never involved me in their game... but the pacifists here didn't seem to like that either and felt I should not be allowed to own a gun....so how's that for your nanny state mentality.

    I don't call 911
