Do all the boxes of HST say tactical on them? I just want the regular HST ammo. Does tactical mean bonded or would it say bonded on the box? Which of the two has the best expansion. Looking for 180gr. I heard the bonded does not expand to the diameter of the regular HST. Thanks, Glocknload19

Not all HST boxes even say HST on them.
Some over-run batches come in plain white/black boxes or the
classic grey/blue boxes (the XM40 loads come to mind).

The mainstream 50 rd LE boxes will say HST on the front and sides, with "tactical" also appearing on the sides.

The tactical bonded rounds say "tactical bonded" on both the front of the box and the flaps according to the atk website: http://glarp.atk.com/2010/2010_Images/Federal_LE/index.htm

I have several boxes of 357 Sig HST's that are in a regular Federal boxs. Although they do not lose much weight when shot through anything but glass, no HST's are bonded.

HST has had a rocky life. It has always been a restricted sale item but originally was not made for LE.

It was to be a replacement for the Hi Shock in the Classic Pistol line. It did so well in testing Federal decided to run it against the Ranger T in the LE market. The original came in the 50 round box marked Classic.

It looked in in tests but did not fare well in actual shooting. This led to a recall.

Federal released the ammo again in 2004 under their Premium line. It was still a restricted sale item and in a 50 round box.

2007 Federal Decided to consolidate all of their LE ammo into one line like Winchester does. Until then the Tactical Bonded was the only ammo that had the Tactical marking on the box.

Really? I did not know about the HST not faring well? I ean no disrespect, but where is the founding for this info?

HST seem to good to be true? .. amazing expansion, 12" or more penetration, bullet retention, and a large fan base.

The first production expanded very well in jello, just not in people. That is why it was recalled. If you have any in the Premium or the Tactical box it is the new ammo.

It will depend on the caliber, look on the Federal website.

My HST rounds left the factory in May of 2010 so I know I have the new rounds.

The old ones have a sticker on the box saying not for LE use.
