I am normally pretty good with numbers - A few weeks ago I read that the USA has about 115 million households - Today I hear the federal budget (for 2011) is going to be $3.8 trillion. Made my brain freeze up trying to do the math in my head - so I actually wrote the numbers down. $3,800,000,000,000 divided by 115,000,000 I canceled out the "000's" (told you I was good with numbers ) and get $3,800,000 divided by 115 which at least fits in my calculator and equals about $33,000 per household. The average household income in the USA is around $50K. I must be missing something BIG - because it seems impossible to have government spending totaling 2/3 of average household income. Anyone know where I am messing up? I am having another one of those "we are all screwed" moments.
