I am normally pretty good with numbers - :dunno:

A few weeks ago I read that the USA has about 115 million households -

Today I hear the federal budget (for 2011) is going to be $3.8 trillion.

Made my brain freeze up trying to do the math in my head - so I actually wrote the numbers down.

    $3,800,000,000,000 divided by 115,000,000

I canceled out the "000's" (told you I was good with numbers ) and get

$3,800,000 divided by 115 which at least fits in my calculator and equals about $33,000 per household. :wow:

The average household income in the USA is around $50K.

I must be missing something BIG - because it seems impossible to have government spending totaling 2/3 of average household income.

Anyone know where I am messing up?

I am having another one of those "we are all screwed" moments.

Nope. Your math works. Thankfully, there are a whole lot of people that earn a whole lot more than $50K/yr. There are days I like Neal Boortz's idea that you get a vote if you own property and a vote per so many $ in income per year in national elections. Then I realize we'd have heads being lopped off within 20 years if that happened. LOL

just goes to show ... rich people pay most of the taxes and poor people pay none.

If you take gov't assistance for more then 6 months, you loose your vote. Seems like a good idea.

If you're in the taxpaying half, your share is about 65K...
    If you're in the non-paying half... it's about 0

Think half the 'taxpayers' are worried ?....:steamed:

If you really want to freak out, divide the total U.S. National debt by 115,000,000 households.

    As of 9:20 am:

Total debt: $12,351,233,000,0000 (and growing by the minute!)
    Debt per citizen: $40,023
    Debt per taxpayer: $113,048
