I am huge fan of war movies. I feel like I have seen all the good ones and plenty that weren't that good. Here is a list of some that I have seen but I am sure that I am missing quite a few. What are your favorites? Are there any that you wouldn't see?

Good:
We Were Soldiers
Saving Private Ryan
Black Hawk Down
Enemy at the Gates
Defiance
Uprising
The Hurt Locker
Deer Hunter
Wind Talkers
Band of Brothers
Platoon
The Patriot
Gods and Generals
Gettysburg
Glory
The Longest Day
The Great Raid
Saints and Soldiers

Not so Good:
The Thin Red Line
Stop Loss
Jarhead
Tiger Land
Days of Glory

You forgot Apocalypse Now ?!

:faint:

Heres my opinions on the ones i've seen with a grade because i know everybody is dying for that type of thing. Argue back if you want

We Were Soldiers

b-/c plus. not too bad but something missing.

Saving Private Ryan

Spielberg does war movies the same way he does every other type of movie - long, drawn out and way more ponderous then it has to be. Grade: C

Black Hawk Down

Grade: B. Pretty intense, good firefights and action, great cinematography. A little longer then it needed to be.

Enemy at the Gates

Grade: C. Interesting to see Stalingrad from a Russian viewpoint but again, too long, and too many goofy and implausible story elements.

Deer Hunter

Grade: c minus. This is no war movie at all it is a character study with a lot of the elements missing or not fully explained. The war action takes up maybe 15 minutes of this 3 hour bore-fest and most of that is captured GI's being forced to play the russian roulette with some crazed oriental screaming "MAO!".

Platoon
Grade: A. Unique because it is probably the ONLY Vietnam war movie made by a former GI that fought there (Oliver Stone). That said i found his restraint in making it amazing since he obviously managed to seperate his Vietnam experience to not influence from the story.

Jarhead
Grade: C
You have to wonder why they bothered making a movie like this at all. Especially with Gulf war 2 going on for real at the time. The book was top notch but as the movie shows, it did not really have the qualities to being turned into a movie. The book was written on a very personal level that can't be shown on screen effectively, and so the whole thing falls flat.

The Dirty Dozen was pretty good with Lee Marvin, but I didn't like the scenes were they trapped all the germans in the cellar and killed them or when Telly Savalas stabbed that hot german fraulein that was saying "Wolfgang, wo bist du?"
