I guess we are getting a bit top-heavy on threads like this, but a couple of the others got me thinking of this topic.

What's everyone's favorite war movie? Any war, any theater. Just needs to be a movie based on or in a war.

My favorite since I was a teenager has been and is Where Eagles Dare. Clint Eastwood and Richard Burton were in it of course, but a lot of other famous actors of the time were in it as well.

I thought Clint Eastwood did an outstanding job in this flick. It was a clever story, great locations and scenes, plenty of action and intrigues. It had it all.

There are so many Great War movies and many are better in many ways than Where Eagles Dare. I don't know why this movie struck such a chord with me when I was young, but it did. I enjoy it every bit as much to watch it today, as it did when I was a kid.

Can't come up with a favorite, but BRIDGE OVER THE RIVER KWAI, LAWRENCE OF ARABIA and THE DIRTY DOZEN are 3 of my favorites.

For some reason, I always had a thing for "Pork Chop Hill" -- maybe because it covered a war (AKA "police action") that almost never gets touched, plus it felt "gritty" at a time when Hollywood didn't really do "gritty."

Also like "The Longest Day," "Blackhawk Down," "The Dirty Dozen," "We Were Soldiers," etc.

Saving Private Ryan and The Longest Day are my "Top Two".

    Honorable Mention List:
    Das Boot
    Patton
Downfall - in German with English subtitles (The English-dubbed versions don't do the acting justice)
    The Wild Geese
    Tora Tora Tora

Way too many to call one best.

First two that come to mind...
    Zulu
    Das Boot
    OK three...
    The Great Escape
If I was going to name a fourth,
    The Beast

but as I said, I enjoy them all if the acting and direction is well done.
