Just curious as to what your favorite bullet is for rifle. I am tied between Winchester Fail Safe and Swift A-Frame. Use them for my 7mm-08.

Almost all of my big game hunting is done with .44 mag handguns. On deer sized game I've found that any 240 gr JHP works just fine.

I like the corelokts for 30 caliber. GREAT hunting performance at close and long range. Can't say that for some ballistic tipped ammo that fragment at close ranges.

I've recently converted to .458" cast projectiles based hunting performance on game. It leaves two large holes, busts through bones, game won't go far and you can "eat right up to the hole."

I mostly use Nosler Partitions in the high velocity bottleneck cases. Hasn't failed me yet.

I use a 130 gr. Barnes X-bullet in PMC Goldline .270 Winchester for whitetail. One-shot stops so far. The six-pointer last year didn't even take a step.

Well, you said for deer, and bigger.....

For deer, I load Hornady 154gr. Spire Point, in the 7mm Rem Mag.

For The "Bigger stuff," I load either, Remington 150gr. Premier Scirocco Bonded, OR, 160gr. Premier A-Frame, both in the 7mm Rem mag.

Another vote for the Remmington 30-06 corelokts in 180 gr

They put a pounding on white tails.

No offense, but I can't stand it when someone asks a question and a totally irrelevant answer is given. Question was for RIFLES, not your .44mag!

...There's always at least ONE in the group!

A-N-Y-W-A-Y-S.... My favorite RIFLE load is a .243 with a plain-jane Winchester Power-Point 100gr SP. It's cheap from Wal Mart and my Ruger holds it 1" low at 300yds, when zero'd at 200yds.

Works great on CA mule deer and two pigs I shot with it. Oh, ferral dogs, it's the Grim-Reaper. Turns their insides out.

    Hey, whoa there Hoss!

Your kinda new here, and 'Vafish' is 'one in the group' as you put it, that has always been a very respectable contributor here...
You were a little hard there.

Welcome to you as well as a fairly new guy...

But the poster also 'did not' ask for a 'detailed dissertation' on how well your gun shoots at 300 yds, or your hunting experiences, or how well the guts come out of ferral dogs... seems 'your answer' was a tad "irrelevant", to a degree.

Just slow down Hoss, you'll get a more harmonious outcome!

not only that, but last i checked, you can shoot .44 mag out of a Marlin levr action. It may be a carbine, but it's still a type of rifle

Oh yeah, .270- 150 grain remington CoreLokt

    .30-30- 170 grain Core Lokt

Highlighted the relevant parts. While I agree that all should be civil, the poster does have a legitimate point.

    YMMV.

    speaking of 44mag, i have had good results with the xtp 240grain XTP from a mzl'er ( is a rifle ) in a .430 diameter aka 44magnum.

All animals shot with it , have died within 20-30yards of being hit. Velocities are alot less than a centerfire rifle cartridge.

So I have to kinda agreed with vafish that a 44mag in a rifle/carbine heck mzl'er is one damm fine nice caliber for deer and bigger items ;)

Welcome to the ignore list asshat. You might just figure on leaving the hunting forum. I don't think you're making any friends here with that attitude. Take it back to GNG or some such place.

Who's "asshat"? or should I ask, what's an "asshat?"

Anyway, back on topic.....I love the .44mag 240gr JHP (plain-jane) out of my 16" Winchester lever gun. I took a nice black bear with that rifle/bullet combo. The bullet did very well right in the bear's "10-ring."

It dropped the bear and the bear was down-n-out, but still kick'n. I decided to put another 240gr bullet in it's chest and it died seconds later.

I'm going to try that gun/bullet combo out on some feral goats on my cousin's property in September. Should work out pretty nice.
