I am working through my first build, lower is built, optics purchased, waiting on funds before I buy the upper. Rail covers is one of the few details I havent decided on yet. I see a lot of people using the XTM rail covers, does anyone like the magpul ladder style rail covers?

The XTM system seems a little thick, I want to protect my fingers from the exposed rail without adding much size if possible. Please post your favorite rail covers and any rail covers you have had problems with.

I only use the Magpul ladder rail covers, because of their low profile design. I'm not a fan of the larger rail panels/covers out there.

I like the ladder style rail covers, but they don't protect the rails as well. The tango down rail covers are pretty slim and good quality, and can offer a cutout for a pressure switch.

I like the XTM's on my AK due to the thinner design of the rail. On my AR-- I have the Magpul MOE guards with the ladder rail covers. They are ok but as stated they do not protect the rail as well.

Big Plus one for the LaRue index clips. They're snug and secure on the rail and you can put on as many as you like without having to cut them to fit. They come in different colors so you can mix your own patterns. Plus they have holding clips for those of you who run wires.

If I ever get another quad rail, I'll be using the LaRue Index Clips.

I have the XTM rail panels on the side of my AR. I will admit they seem a little thick, but I have bigger hands so it isnt much of an issue. I do have a Magpul ladder rail on the top of my forearm and I like it. Low profile and it protects your hands.

I have the KAC rail covers right now, but will eventually switch to the LaRue clips.

I still use the older Tango Down covers but was shipped an upper w/ the ladder rail covers and like them a lot. they are much more low profile and seem to do the job.
