What are your favorite old Western movie cliches?

    I like:

"Don't worry, Comanches don't fight at night." Spoken by grizzled old cavalry scout, right before an arrow thumps into his chest.

    Got fave?

The revolver shot from 100 yards away that pings off the rock the other guy is hiding behind.

Hand-shots which knock the gun out of the bad guys hands and leave them shaking their fingers like they were just pinched in a door a bit.

"Draw your gun, prarie fairy." (Rustlers Rhapsody)

Tying a horse by the reins outside a saloon.

Tying a horse with a simple loop around the hitching post outside saloon.

Leaving expensive Winchester in saddle scabbard outside saloon.

Hours later, horse and Winchester still outside saloon.

    He just wanted something to keep in his shirt pocket, so he could;
"Just shoot 'em in the hand"
if someone broke into his rig while he was taking a nap.
I suggested he just hand 'em a condom and submit.
I never saw him or his buddy again.

Every evil cattle baron was a Colonel, is a widower and has a beautiful, rebellious daughter between 18 and 20 years old.

Every town has only one Town Drunk and he works at the livery stable.

All saloons have a balcony with a rickity railing that some cowboy gets knocked through during a fight. Even one story saloons.

Everyone, no matter how poor they are, shoots a Colt .45. Nothing else and no other caliber. No second rate, bargain basement pistols in other popular calibers of the time. Just Colt .45s.

Not really cliches, but quotes I like.

    Fill your hands, you SOB.
    John Wayne, True Grit

In this world there's two kinds of people, my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig.
Clint Eastwood, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

When you have to shoot, shoot; don't talk.

I just watched Support Your Local Sheriff and Support Your Local Gunfighter. They were full of bad cliches. I love it.

Every time someone gets stranded in the middle of nowhere a buzzard magically appears circling overhead. I live in the west and spend a lot of time in remote deserts but I have never seen a buzzard.

Good guys wear white hats and bad guys wear black hats.

That's not so much the case in John Wayne and Clint Eastwood movies. But its very true in the old spaghetti westerns.

Yeah interestingly enough I was watching Unforgiven on AMC a couple weeks ago and noticed that Clint had tired his horse to a bush.
