Meanwhile there is loading to be done for the fall matches. What are you loading these days?

Been doing lots of catching up in 9mm. 124 JHP-PD, 5 grains of WSF, CCI spp, Once fired Speer nickel plated brass.

And for the .40 lovers-SNS 180 FP, 4.0 of WST, CCI SPP and Speer once fired brass.

I also have lots of really nice loads for OUT-OF-STOCK, and NO BACKORDER.

My son has (re)discovered .45s. 21 and 30SF. Left the range pretty low on the supply. Cranked out about 500 rds this AM. Another 500 or so all ready to load. Usual mixed brass, .452 Berry's 230 gr RN (old, yes), WLP, 4.8 gr 231. Nice soft practice ammo, 725 to 775 fps depending on bbl.

My gear has been boxed up for a move since April, but I have cast, coated and sized a few thousand bullets. Running low, so I dug out my press and am getting ready to bang out some ammo to last until fall.

    223: 55 gr fmj-bt over 24.9 gr WC 844. CCI 450.

40: Cast LBT 401-175-TC powder coated over No. 2

10mm: a few different cast bullets over a few different powders. Mild to wild loadings.

    38: RCBS 38-150-SWC over 700-X

    9mm: Lee 356-120-TC over WSF

    If I have time:
9x25 Dillon: TJ Conevera 380 JHP 90 gr over No. 9.

45 Auto: Lee clone of the H&G 68 200 gr SWC over 700-X

Primers will be my limiting factor. That said, I have enough to keep shooting at my usual rate for over a year. I'm sure I can snag more along the way. I will also probably slow down a bit, perhaps start shooting 22lr again.

I’m actually lower on bullets but I cast most of what I shoot so I am not too concerned about that. I just built a sieve to help with berm mining, something I have not really done, up until now. The small dirt mound out at my mother’s place has a bunch of lead in it, and I also have infrequent access to a nice large private range that has been around for decades, and to my knowledge hasn’t been mined at all.

The load I’ve settled on for the gun I shoot 95% of the time is my cast 124gr RN bullets, powder coated, over 4.8gr of Unique at 1.100 OAL. If I run out of Unique, CFE-P gives me very similar performance for a very similar charge.

Pretty stocked up on everything, but have been loading a few lighter 357
For the new python. I have a few thousand of the zero 158 Jsp
And have been running these with 6.5 grains of unique
    Super accurate too.

I was pretty stocked up on handgun ammo. But I got around to loading a couple cases of Gallant coated 217 BT in 300 Whisper with AA1680 and I also loaded up a case of Hornady 55 FMJ in 223 with CFE223. Mostly just blasting ammo.

I processed a lot of 223 brass for friends. Roll sized and then decap, swage and trim.

I shot a lot these past few months. Mostly in my basement with my air rifle. Lots of standing and kneeling tripod practice at 9.5 meters. Using a SCATT and Mantis, I was able to tighten things up quite a bit.

Shooting mostly 45 auto with coated/cast bullets to keep my USP happy.
Missouri 185 button nose SWC over 4 grains of WST makes for a sweet shooting target load.

I’ve been on a 10mm kick for a while. PC 180 gr. over 8.5 gr. Longshot.

And I’m always cranking out 9mm for the duty gun. PC 125 gr. over 4.7 gr. Unique.

9mm, MG 147 CMJ, with 3.6gr of my beloved N320 and .380s, MG 95gr JHP with 231. Don't remember that exact load in my head.

I'm in a rut! Other complete toolheads with other loads sit, gazing longingly at my presses - but alas, they are ignored!

I managed to receive 1000 free projectiles and about 12-1500 free brass in 45 auto from an acquaintance who quit reloading years ago. He came across some components he forgot he had and they were free to a good home.

I loaded those up for nothing but the cost of a primer and about a penny’s worth of powder.

200g LSWC over 5.0g of W231. Gave ~800fps. Very soft shooting and accurate. Cycles my P220 and 1911 reliably. I’ve been shooting those the last few range trips because they were cheap.

My other go to load is a .38 spl. Rarely do I go to the range and not shoot a revolver. 158g LRN Missouri BC over 4g of W231. Doesn’t cut the pretty holes that SWC does, but it reloads smoothly from my speedloaders and is still very accurate.

With ammo being so expensive lately I have really changed the way I shoot. The last few range trips I have come up with some drills to maximize repetitions with minimal ammo.

One of my favorites has been using a shot timer and two magazines loaded with 2 rds each. On the buzzer draw and fire 2 reload, and 2 more. I start at five yards and work my way out. As I back out I start focusing on accuracy more so than speed. 5,7, and QD yards they are double taps. After that I do 15 and 20 yards with a pretty tight accuracy requirement. You get a lot of bang for your buck with that one. Drawing, mag change, accuracy, speed.

I’ve also been reloading rifle and doing some bench shooting. I’m currently trying to develop a sub moa load for 270 win and a 1 MOA load for 30-30. So far no luck.

I’m not shooting any 9mm because I don’t reload for it and I don’t want to shoot ammo I bought cheap and can’t replace.

I have still been shooting every week, but I have been mainly shooting calibers I am stocked to reload for, and I have been making a conscious effort to conserve ammo where I can.

9mm Parabellum: 115 Hornady HAP over 6.5 grains of Power Pistol.
This is close to factory 115 loads. Only drawback is muzzle flash, which I noticed last evening shooting around sundown.

For sure 9mm now, have plenty of components. I have enough ‘deer ammo’ loaded for several decades, depending on the gun. Of course hunting ammo can be used for other things if need be.

Next up will be reloading 100’s of rounds of 223 prairie dogging ammo. Then there is always the oddball milsurp to load for.

I just remembered that I loaded up a lifetimes worth of dangerous game ammo.

About 400 (maybe more) rounds of 470 Nitro with 500gn Woodleigh bonded and Barnes solids.

Then another 300 rounds (maybe more) of 416 Rigby with 400gn Woodleigh and Hornady solids.

A good mixture of plinker ammo and full power killing ammo. Trying to find a balance that still hits POA/POI was fun.

Please consider only mining after a rain. Wear rubber boots, gloves, mask. Oxidized lead dust is bad juju.

For shooting slow fire accuracy groups with cast I built a simple plywood box filled with wood chips. As those have been chewed up I add dirt. I need to crack it open again soon. Alloy waiting to be smelted in there.

It’s hardly a minor ammo crisis at this point.

After seeing how bad it’s gotten I’ve been shooting .22 LR lately. I’ve got a pretty sizable stash of that that is getting close to 15+ years old.

I haven’t shot rimfire in years, but apparently I hid an ammo can full of it from myself several years ago. It won’t last forever, but it’s better than shooting 9mm that I can’t replace easily or cheaply.

It already non-existent in my area. Looking online I saw what little that was available was going for 15 cents per round! No thanks.
