I'm middle aged and overweight, and a new Glock owner. I need some advice on the best kind of holster for daily open carry, concealed carry, and IDPA/GSSF competitions for a 17 and (eventually) a 26.

Thanks!

Concealed carry I like a good IWB holster. My favorite is the RGrizzle Town & Country. For competition I prefer Blade-tech kydex. I don't open carry so I can only say either of the ones I mentioned would serve in that role as well without a cover garment.

I am an overweight guy. I am 5'8" and 270 lbs. I carry a Glock 19 in a Crossbreed IWB holster. That conceals great and prints next to nothing. The biggest issue I have found is that I couldn't find a comfortable concealed holster. I took up Crossbreed's challenge and found they were right, it is the ugliest most comfortable holster. I have used a Galco IWB in the past and it worked, but not near as comfortable. For OWB, I use a Galco Avenger for IDPA and such. Another concealable choice is not even on your body. When in the outdoors, I carry a Maxpedition Versipack, the Jumbo. That works great and keeps you comfortable and with gear.

I carry in a belly band but because they don't make one over 48 inches I split it and added some denim. You can carry in short and a tee or dress up and tuck in your shirt and the gun don't pull your pants down

For open carry look at the Safariland 6378, ALS. It is available belt, paddle, or both, very solid holster and it offers some degree of retention in the event of a gun grab.
I don't do iwb so I can't help you with that.

If the Safariland is too big look at Comp-Tac products, they offer GREAT service and make several holsters for owb, iwb, etc.

Good luck.

I'm 6' @ 261lbs and I carry OWB exclusively. I prefer the UBG Regulator, very comfortable and conceals well with only a t-shirt for a cover garment. I have one for my G26, Kahr CW9 and RIA 1911.

I went with the Regulator because it has snaps for easy on/off.

The holster conceals so well, my wife can't tell whether I'm carrying (99% of the time) or not, and she knows what to look for when it comes to printing.

Suspenders are your friend. If you carry with untucked cover garment suspenders are not visible. A hint re suspender buttons. Put front buttons closer to center line. With untucked polo unlike suit coat, you don't have to worry about coat opening and showing suspenders. More to center line give greater support and keeps suspender out of the way of your draw.

When I weighed 370lbs, I carried a G17 in a Minotaur/Comp-Tac Mtac, with a thebeltman.net belt, all held up by some Perry suspenders.

Basic guidelines apply, regardless of weight: the holster holds the gun. The belt holds the holster. At extreme weights, you add: the suspenders hold the belt.

At that weight, I didn't have enough of a waist for my belt to stay in place - ergo the Perry suspenders.

I regularly wore a t-shirt with an unbuttoned Aloha shirt over it. Tucked the t-shirt in, with the suspenders over it, and the Aloha shirt over everything.

Hid everything nicely.

Now that I'm down to a healthy weight, I carry exactly the same way, minus the suspenders.

If your waist size is, oh, over about 44, I recommend getting a stiffening insert in your belt.

I am 5'10" and 220#, I use a Don Hume 715 series for both a G20 and G22 for IWB. With cargo shorts or pants and a button shirt untucked I conceal them pretty well at least no one has come up and said I see your pistol.
