I posted a similar message in the MD forum, so apologies for the slight cross post.

What are the rules on a face to face gun sale in VA? Can anyone point me to a reliable source? I'm a DC resident and not interested in doing anything remotely considered skirting the law. I can buy in DC but have to pay a $125 transfer fee from the only dealer in town.

As a DC resident you can not buy a hand gun Face to Face in VA. You would be committing federal and state felonies.

The only way for you to buy a hand gun as a DC resident is through the one DC dealer that charges $125 per transfer.

I believe you can buy a rifle or shotgun in VA and then get it registered through the DC police, but you would have to check with them.

Couldn't he also have any FFL in the country transfer a gun to his DC FFL?

That would allow him to arrange to buy guns at gun shows, dealers, online, etc.

But he'd still have to pay the $125.00 transfer fee from the ONLY DC dealer, and that's what I think he is trying to avoid.

    To stay legal, he's stuck!

    Take care,
