hello and sorry if this is a jambog or repost, if so please leave a link to the previous thread, but i am in need of an external hard drive, mostly for music, and would appreciate suggestions. i am not terribly computer savvy and have never used an external, but i'm not completely computer illiterate either. i would like to keep it under $100 if i could.

    thanks GT

ETA: i'm running windows xp, if that makes a difference.

any specific brands to avoid or more seriously consider ?

i want to be able to use it for storage as well as back up.

it doesn't have to be the biggest one out there.

i also want to make sure that i can easily transfer files from PC to PC.

I have one very similar and I love it. 1TB is a lot of space to full up and if you're just using it for music, you'll probably never fill it up.

You can typically come out spending less if you buy an enclosure and separate hard drive. I just bought a SATA enclosure for $30 and found a deal on a 1TB drive for $65.

i just got a 2 TB western digital from best buy for $125. I believe the 1 TB ones were like 90 bucks. It might have just been a memorial day sale though.

    good luck man

Western Digitial with a USB interface with large (in TB size) storage capacity is the way to go.
