Turks are muslim or is a muslim nation yet they do not threaten the world with their religion like others do in Iran, Afganistan and so on....

yes, i know of the Armenian slaughter, i dont know why but ive heard of it....yes, i know they took constinapol and made it istambul........

maybe im not very well read but the Turks arent letting radials like alquida use them, or the muslim brotherhood exploit them......in fact they seem to get along pretty well with non muslim nations.

how come they can do this? oil like other muslim nations? nope....

    what am i missing?

I believe they became more secular under kemal ataturk in the early 1900s and the end of the era of the last caliphate. The radicals are trying to change things though.

There was an Arab nationalist movement following the post-WWI breakup of the Turk-led Ottoman Empire that marginalized Turks since they weren't Arabs and didn't have oil. This is changing. For the past few years their president, a hard line Islamist, has been replacing moderate military leaders with hard line Islamists. Their society has remained faithful to Islam and now with the government de-secularizing, the good times are almost over.

Just back from a trip to Istanbul. Ataturk did indeed modernize, westernize and secularize Turkey in the 1930's. That held up until recently when the radical muslims began making themselves known and felt. Turkey is gradually moving in that unfortunate direction. Look for trouble in the future.

They are backsliding back towards Islamist governance.

The Turks are mostly Muslim, but their government is secular and recognizes religious freedom - they are not a muslim terrorist nation because of what Thomas Jefferson would have called "a wall of separation between church and state." Their wall isn't as high as ours, but it keeps religion mostly out of the government and the government mostly out of religion.

Article 24 of the constitution of Turkey:

Article 24 "c2. Acts of worship, religious services, and ceremonies shall be conducted freely, provided that they do not violate the provisions of Article 14."

So what is in Article 14 that applies to this article?

That constitutional bit is as meaningless as the old USSR constitution guaranteeing all kinds of freedoms. Like about all Muslim nations, Turkey does not have freedom of religion as we know it.

    Here you go!
Article 14 Prohibition of Abuse of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms
    (1) None of the rights and freedoms embodied in the Constitution shall be exercised with the aim of violating the indivisible integrity of the state with its territory and nation, and endangering the existence of the democratic and secular order of the Turkish Republic based upon human rights.
    (2) No provision of this Constitution shall be interpreted in a manner that enables the State or individuals to destroy the fundamental rights and freedoms embodied in the Constitution or to stage an activity with the aim of restricting them more extensively than stated in the Constitution.
    (3) The sanctions to be applied against those who perpetrate these activities in conflict with these provisions shall be determined by law.
