I think the G21 is a good shooting and accurate .45
Do you think I'd stand a chance against the 1911s?
Could I even compete against them being my Glock is DAO and theirs is SAO?
Should I get a competition sight package including a F/O front? Which one do you suggest?

I've shot IDPA with my G21 for over 2 years and not once did I ever feel outgunned by someone shooting a 1911. The Glock 21 is not a bull's eye shooting gun, it is more for the IDPA/USPSA style action-shooting sports and once you've learned the trigger you can absolutely fly with a stock Glock. In fact, the only thing I've ever done to my Glock 21 is to add more bullets to it. I could see a fiber optic front site helping but that big white dot up there doesn't do a bad job at all.

Again, it's not made for tack-driving precision but for sports like IDPA, a steel plate match or anything like that the Glock 21 will be more than enough gun.

I've shot IDPA with my 21. It does just fine. You won't be in the same class as the 1911s, but competing with them shouldn't be a problem. I like the Ameriglo proglo front sight or a Hi-viz fiber optic.

Shoot it. I've used mine a ton in steel matches and done just fine. If you plan on using it a bunch I would do a skinny FO front and a black rear sight. But you certainly don't need to.

I've only had one 1911, it was a Para Ordnance P14. Didn't like shooting it. Trigger was stiff and the shock, concussion type recoil was not my cup of tea.
The G21SF by comparison is a pleasure to shoot.
Seems like the polymer just soaks up that .45 blast.

Congrats, I shoot a G22 for IDPA. What kind of sites are you using on her.
Thanks. Those are Warren Tactical night sights, yellow one dot rear / green front. I really need night sights at the Indoor Nationals due to all the low light stages and my poor night vision.

Think I'm gonna set mine up just like Bucky's. He obviously got a winner there!

Ever use your G21 in a competitive shooting match?

Yes. I've competed in a few GSSF Matches with my G21 Gen2.

I 'whooped up' on every one of them 1911s.

I've used my SF a few times in our IDPA matches. Suggestion if you plan to get a FO front sight, get one that fills the rear sight gap fully. I tried the thinner one and couldn't hit a barn door with it as the front sight would move around too much for accurate no-shoot hits.

However I do much better with my CZ 75 as the Glock grip angle keeps messing me up. Unfortunate, as the Glock manual of arms is so darn slick.
