Did anyone just watch the dog rescue on the L.A. river?
Dozens of firefighters and a helicopter....AIR LIFTED the dog to safety as it was scared to death and biting him...

Every day, I am truely amazed at the great and full spectrum of compassion that most of us have for other living things.

I just finished watching it...pretty amazing. Some people apparently don't feel the same compassion, though. FOX News is getting some emails questioning the wisdom of spending the money and effort for the rescue.

Some AH from Mississippi asked why they just didn't shoot the dog and save the taxpayers a lot of money. :steamed:

In the hallway - it's on cuz!
The firefighters were already on duty - the cost is the same as if they'd been at the station watching TV, training, or responding to another call. In a department that big, it's not like they had to call in overtimers to maintain staffing while they handled the call.
