Elementary School Calls Police on Special Needs Kindergartner for Harmless Pointing Gesture
    MONDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 2020

There has always been ridiculous. But now there is Tredyffrin-Easttown School District ridiculous.

That’s because this Pennsylvania educational board currently tops all-comers in the hotly-contested race for the most counter-productive overreaction to a perceived “threat” from an objectively harmless student.

In this case, the victim was Margot, a 6-year-old kindergartner who has Down syndrome.

Considering the setting, the administration should have factored in her disability. If it were an eighth grader in any urban junior high, he or she would have a psychological examination before returning to class. Not an apples-to-apples comparison by any means.

California makes this super simple. If they under the age of 14 they are incapable of committing a crime by law unless you can prove they knew the difference between right and wrong. There were a series of questions we asked such as: what happens if you get in trouble at school, what happens at home, tell me something that is right, tell me something that is wrong.

After doing it more than a few times it was interesting to see that some kids as you as 10 you could charge them. There were also kids that were just about to hit the limit and they were oblivious.

5 year old would be a super simple "He can't be charged with a crime therefore it isn't a crime. Further it isn't a crime because you can't be reasonably shot by a kindergarten kid."

The stupidity of this act by the Tredyffrin-Easttown School District is beyond words.

I remember coming out of a supermarket once, and a couple of boys who had been left to their own recognizance in a parked car pointed their fingers at me and started making bang-bang noises.

I immediately "ducked for cover" behind a car and returned fire. The kids excitedly kept up the barrage, and we had a raging gun-fight for about 15 seconds until I surrendered, allowing them to notch a victory.

That had to be a good 20 years ago. It annoys me now to think we'd all be arrested. o_O

When I was a kid, I had one of these....anybody else remember the "Six-Finger" gun?? I remember shooting my older brother with it at contact range. He then proceeded to pick my nose with it.

    So sad!
There is a kid who lives across the street in a converted garage with his dad. Special needs. Not sure of physical age - maybe 7. Really in bad shape. Blind in one eye. Cries like an animal. Teacher comes to him. Takes walks with his dad. I have also seen kids in special school wherein there is an attendant assigned to each kid. Kids stabbing aides with pencils was common.

When I think that life can be tough, there are people experiencing it all the time.

If the kid came to school and said she wanted to transition into a boy, the district would be lauding the courageous 6yo student.

The teacher should have to re-imberse the taxpayers.

I see permutations of this kind of thing frequently. The police usually transport them to the ED for “evaluation”. I call this the medicaliazation of bad behavior. It’s especially sad when it involves a child who is developmentally disabled or emotionally impaired. One size does not fit all. This case does not rise to police involvement in any situation. Sad.

It seems coping with minor issues like an adult was left out of their training.

My kids school has a classroom like that. Mostly developmental issues not behavior. They are off in their own classroom. I thank God my kids are healthy and I pray that after this life they get rewarded.
