I need a good quality but relatively inexpensive DVD recorder to transfer some 8mm and MiniDV tapes to DVD.

Any suggestions as to brands/models that'll do the job?

    TIA.

I've had good luck with Lite-On. I refuse to buy HP hardware any more.

I just recommended this one in another thread, so I figured I'd post it here as well.

We are using it with good results at church, as a live recorder. The only real disadvantage is that you are stuck with only one menu design.

Samsung and NEC have worked well on my builds.

as long as you spend about $30 its gonna be 'good enough for home use'

Seems you already have your mind set, but I'll just add another huge +1 to Lite ON, and stay away from Plextor.
