When going to an event do you have to sign up and shoot or can you just go and watch and get your gun worked on?

You don't have to participate. If you do go just to watch you need to sign a liability waiver at the registration desk, and wear eye and ear protection while watching the match.

I don't think you have to be a GSSF member to get your gun serviced. Every time I have been to the armorers table they never asked to see my GSSF card, they started working on the gun, no questions asked. At the Statesville GSSF match I had every internal part in my G17 replaced with the exception of the barrel and striker. Now that's some good customer service!
