Last night I helped my older son switch his Dell laptop from XP to dual boot XP and Ubuntu 9.04. First off, it had a Dell (Broadcom) wireless card which was not recognized from the LiveCD but we wired it for the install and the wireless was fine after the first boot. I have not done a dual boot in a while and the repartitioning was dead easy. I have been using Linux since Red Hat 5.1 and I am not all that often surprised by a distro anymore. Ubuntu 9.04 surprised me. First off the install went flawlessly, a good thing! But during the install a prompt asked about importing XP settings. I was unsure but clicked yes. When the system booted up the desktop image was the same as in XP! All the firefox bookmarks were imported into Ubuntu, the XP partition was mounted and a bunch of settings were carried over. I was impressed. Well done Ubuntu crew!
