I've never done this, but a family friend told me about it, says its awesome!

Get a 5 gallon water bottle (carboy).

Fill it up about 2/3 with cherries

    Fill bottle with vodka

Seal and leave outside (in shade, i think) for about a month.

I don't agree with leaving it outside or the 5 gallon size, but you can put lots of different fruits into vodka for delightful infusions. Bueberries or raspberries are particularly suitable.

After a month in the bottle, decant the infuded vodka straining out the fruit. Save the "drunken berries" to use in the batter for best pancakes you ever tasted (extra tip for no additional charge).

I do it with Captain Morgan, because vodka makes me ill nowadays (had too much of it when I was younger LOL).

A watermelon would be an upgrade compared to some of the gals I've...

Oh wait, you're talking about filling it with liquor? Yeah I've done that. Make sure you don't fill it with too much, or it'll taste like crap and defeat the whole purpose.

    Cherry Bombs!

When I was a young man I frequented a bar that had a jar of Cherry Bombs on it for a mere fifty cents each. It sat there, ignored, forever- until one day I was dared to buy one by a drinking buddy, who is now a shooting buddy (and in law school). You get a cherry and enough of the liquid in the jar to fill a shotglass with a cherry in it, and it has the alcohol content of like 2 1/2 beers- FOR FIFTY CENTS! Once we realized that they were good, we drained the jar in about a month. Occasionally we'd buy $5 worth and send them to strangers all over the bar. After we polished them off, the bar never made another batch, so of course WE had to! After much experimentation with ratios and aging time this is the recipie we settled on.

1 jar of Mariscino cherries (sp?)
Everclear- same amount as the volume of the jar of cherries.
1 empty jar- twice as large as the jar of cherries.

Put the cherries (and the syrup!) and the Everclear in the jar. Let it sit for a month. Serve as mentioned above. You could probably chill them if you wanted, but what's the point, really?
