I just watched "Live at Budokan" and compared it with "Live in Tokyo" from a decade ago.

The band seemed sluggish and rote by comparison to the earlier performance.
Portnoy especially seemed subdued and tired.

    What's going on here?
    Was King Franz Leopold right?

I haven't seen the Budokon DVD yet, but they are good on the Scenes from New York DVD I have... and Train of Thought was awesome.

Dude... funny you should bring them up, because I was once a HUGE fan. In fact, I have their symbol tattoed on my left arm. That is my only tat.

Okay, I still am a fan, but I'm no longer such a huge fan. I think you may be right about them just sort of going through the motions now. I've seen them in south FL and I've seen them in Madrid, Spain. Both were amazing shows, IMO.

I haven't seen them perform live in a little over 2 years.

I wish they would come out with a new album instead of "Live in..." DVD's.

Portnoy and Petrucci are still gods of their respective instruments. Wish I had 1% of their musical talent.
