Drank the Koolade and bought a police trade in G21 Gen3

Let me start with that I’ve always been a steel and walnut guy who only got into ARs after retirement. I built an assortment of .45 pcc’s [both rifles and pistols] over the last 15 yrs. Olympic, CMMG and most recently a Foxtrot Mike pcc. First with a 4.5 inch upper and then a 16 inch upper. This is where I got sucked into the world of Glock as the FM lower uses G21 mags, all my other pccs use GI greasegun mags. I could invest in a used G21 [my first polymer gun] and share mags between the glock and the pcc and shoot them in the local zsa 2 gun I compete in. Last week I bought a police trade in G21 Gen3 with 3 mags. Waiting for it to show up at my lgs. As I was wanting a longslide 1911 anyway I decided to build a longslide G21 instead. Been watching a lot of G40 videos. A cool looking pistol. I also bought a Spectre Supply 6 inch slide and barrel. The barrel is advertised as being ok for lead bullets. At some point I will have the slide milled for an optic without the base plates. Photos when I actually start my build. Btw this is my first post.
Here’s my FM build.

I highly recommend eventually milling your slide for a red dot. I own about twenty .45acp pistols and this Gen 3 G21 with a red dot (I’ve been very happy with this Holosun HE508t green unit) has outshot almost all of them. It’s the reason that it’s on my nightstand, I have absolute confidence in it. Jagerwerks has milled all my Glocks and they’ve done an excellent job on all of them

welcome to the site. I have a Glock 21 in the RTF2 grip texture that was an LE trade in. It shoots very well. You will read many on here state their glocks in .45 are the most accurate, best shooting guns they own. there is something about a glock chambered in .45!

I bought my G21 in 2005 after having become infatuated with the idea of a .45 that stacked 13 in the magazine when I first heard of it in the '90s. Whenever I was Stateside after that, I'd run that thing every weekend. I even ran it in USPSA matches when I was stationed in a place where there was an active club.

That thing can ring a gong at 100yds without having to elevate the muzzle too much, and at 75yds, it'll keep everything inside of 12" without a rest. It's truly a great pistol that's given me only two stoppages that I can think of over the course of a round count of around 10,000 rounds.

I can't recommend the G21 enough.

I have an old 625 Smith that is the most accurate handgun that I own so it will be interesting to see how they compare to each other. JMB certainly got it perfect when he created the .45acp. But I am curious, can I shoot lead boolits in a G21? How about polymer coated lead boolits? I read somewhere that it wasn’t safe. My 3 modern Smiths. The Thunder Ranch has stags on it now.

My S/S Spectre 6 inch slide and barrel arrived. Beautiful work. Still waiting for my Gen3 G21. I stumbled onto a complete Gen 4 frame so now I need a complete set of slide internals as my initial plan was to just swap parts from the G21 slide into the long slide. I thought 180.00 wasn’t a bad price for a new complete Glock minus the slide. Found Lone Wolf for the .45 slide internal parts kit and a gen3 ss recoil guide/spring.

I also bought a G21, gen3 from a friend who is a retired LE officer.
He told me their armorer "tightened it up".
I changed the sights to big dot night sights.
I also reload 2.8 clays or 4.5 gr of unique over a SNS 158gr rn polycoat and I can cover a one handed shot group with a silver dollar at 21ft.
I very happy with accuracy and lack of recoil.

I had a gen3 G-21 and liked it better than any of my 1911's. I shot Bowling pins with it for several years.
Those 1911s couldn't keep up with me. I was top shooter for most of the time. I didn't win them all, but most. I switched back to a 1911, and stayed back in the pack till I switched back to my G-21.
A couple of them Said they were going to Hide my Glock, or the mags so I couldn't shoot.
I always carried a 1911 and mags to shoot with in case the Glock quit, never did. I loaned the 1911 out a couple of times to guys with Kimbers that quit.
A friend let me shoot his G-41, and it fit me like it was made just for me.
I liked that thing so much that I went shopping for one the next day. I found a Factory Refurbished
G-41 and bought it. After a few trips to the range the G-21 was re-assigned to my nightstand.
The G-41 is now my favorite 45. The grip on my gen3 G-21 always felt just a touch to big, but we worked fine together. The 41 fits like a glove.
I was going to Atlanta, and took the G-21 along with me, and stopped off at Glock. They took her back for a while, and came back, and told me they had given her a complete Refurbish from end to end. They could tell it had been shot a lot, but I had taken good care of her.
I told them thank you, and then remembered I was going to get Night Sites, and forgot about it.
No problem and back she went, back out she came in just a few minutes, and no charge. They said it was a slow day and it gave him something to do.
Great people over there.

Back in the day and among other brands I amassed a good number of sig and Glock firearms, I shot both well enough but the sigs just fit me a little better while the Glocks seemed to always need me to make a minor grip adjustment as I was drawing and aiming the gun. Now that said the gen 3 rtf G21 was an exception to the rule, for some reason I shot that G21 better and enjoyed it more than I did shooting my full stainless P220. Everything was just right with that G21 and to this day I still regret moving it along. Now I find anytime I consider jumping back in and purchasing another 45acp I start to hanker for an old RTF 21, but then the G41 enters the picture and I start to wonder how I might get on with one of those.
Enjoy that new old G21, it’s a fine gun!

It finally arrived yesterday, picked it up today. The gen3 G21 pistol/ mag came in the glock case, fired brass in an envelope, a brush, and unopened manual packet and 2 extra factory mags. First impressions are thats a big blocky pistol. Have no idea if the trigger is good or bad for a glock. Mag release and slide lock are too small but I have a bigger ones. Needs an upgraded trigger as I don’t like how the serrations feel and its too short. All my 1911s have long triggers. Waiting on my son to show up to move some furniture to his house. Hopefully we can pop a few through it. Still waiting for my internal slide parts and upgrade stuff to show. They were supposed to be delivered today.
BTW, I checked the trigger with my gauge and got about 6 #. Will attempt to clean and polish things this evening. Just fired 10 of my 200 gr RNFP lead boolits through it. 100 %. Minute of sass marshal from my deck.

I do not recommend that you swap out trigger systems. You can do the shoe, but be VERY careful with trigger systems. I had an Agency Arms trigger that was not drop safe (on carpet, waist high drop). I had a McNally that seemed fine, but was too light for carry.

Frankly, all I do to the trigger is actually INCREASE the pull weight. I use a Ghost 3.5# connector with NY-1 trigger spring. Why? First, the 3.5# connector smooths out the pull. The NY-1 does increase the pull to about 6.25#, but it creates a very positive reset for faster shooting (Jerry's trick for revolvers; Ayoob suggested this setup decades ago). One great side effect is the NY-1 trigger spring lasts far longer than the standard trigger spring. I was reminded of this fact during CA's BSIS shooting qualification course. The man next to me had a Glock 22 and the trigger spring broke within the first string of fire. This $3 part turned a semiautomatic pistol into a manual action gun. Overall, I have set up most of my Glocks like this and they shoot great. This works best in Generation 3 guns (my favorite generation) because their internals are such that they allow for a very smooth feel.

I might be a gen 4 guy as normally gripping and dry firing the G21 my trigger finger is in the trigger guard at a severe angle. High on the right, low on the left. The beavertail feels too high. In dry firing it’s much more comfortable to use my middle finger to pull the trigger, laying my trigger finger along the frame, this puts my web and hand high on the frame like it should be. The hump on the rear of the grip feels like the arched mainspring hsg of a 1911 which I do like. Will try this technique with ammo tomorrow but will also order a flat faced trigger shoe too. I have long fingers with bent up arthritic knuckles. Another thought would be to relieve the left inside bottom of the trigger guard to make more room. I really would like a trigger shoe that was 3/8 inch bigger front to back over the glock. And while I’m *****in it needs some weight in the glock hole.

My glock innards finally arrived from midway and Lone Wolf. Installed a Novak steel carry rear sight and a HiViz front. Replaced the plastic recoil spring guide with a steel one and spring from Lone Wolf, installed the LW striker assembly but i noticed that the split collar had 4 tits on it while the glock is just round. I also couldn’t get the striker channel in my Spectre slide. I didn’t force it. Put an extended mag release and slide lock on it the other day. The extractor parts are from the G21. Just put 18 rds on steel. It’s dropping the mtys at my feet. Getting good primer strikes with my loads using hard CCI LP primers. I originally wanted a black Spectre slide but ordered this rather than wait. Liking the look with the front serrations. It will get milled for a Holosun and the top corners will get rounded. With it being ss it won’t need to be refinished after milling. Not going to do anything else with this except shoot it until I get the Gen 4 lower I bought to try this slide on it.
