    thanks, guys.

    I've had it for 2 months. I figured since I'm off work till next year, this would be a good time to really get to know it.

    here's some other shots with it;

    this was a candid shot of my nephew's daughter taken with the 50mm 1.8 lens. best $100 bucks I've ever spent.

    I don't think I could ever get great shots like that with my Sony DSC-V1

    Those shots look professional.

    Keep up the good work.

    What exactly is the "Raw" you mention? Is it a setting for night time pics? My night shots are nowhere near that quality.

    DEFINITION OF RAW

    it allows a greater latitude in PP(post-proccessing).

    I don't shoot in RAW all the time, since it does require PP on every shot. I shoot jpeg more, but RAW is growing on me. I don't have photoshop, or any of the extensive software programs. I use Nikon View. free from Nikon.

    as far as your night shots, do you;

    -bracket shoot?

    -experiment with WB settings?

    Um, being the pretty much amateur photographer that I am I turn it on, point it and hit the button that makes the picture take. I should probably read my manual a little more in depth, eh.

    Not trying to be a smart *****, just being honest. I don't know what the things are you mention. I have just recently thought more about getting more serious, have contemplated on picking up a book or 2, but with the holidays and a new job time has been very tight lately.

    nipperwolf, the shot of the dog done with the 80-200 f2.8 is stunning. It's a great lens, and you've done a beautiful job taking advantage of its quality. Congratulations!

    Thanx. yes, it is an awesome lens. soon after I got the camera, I needed a subject to try that lens on. I went to my next door neighbor's house and asked if Pete could come out and play. a few days later I took them an 8x12 of that pic. they were amazed with it.

    Pete got 'fluffed and buffed' a couple weeks later, so I did another pic for them.

    I think he looks better with the shaggy look.;)
