Down to just a G26 for carry; do I need a third (larger) mag?

I am perfectly happy with only two 10rd mags for the range, and at my local competitions, courses rarely require more than ~18 rounds at a time. And if I ever need one, there are always other Glock shooters who would let me use a spare.

I don't forsee myself carrying with a larger mag in the gun and I can't say I'd be any more likely to carry the larger mag as a spare over the extra 10-rounder.

My gut tells me to just get as proficient as I can with the 10rd mags, and maybe get in the habit of always carrying the spare in some capacity (even if just in my backpack or whatever). This is largely because I like practicing how I will carry, and I know 90% of the time the weapon would have the 10rd mag loaded.

The only real time it would see use would be for the occasional competition with a longer course of fire, or if a gang of zombies ambush my house. Otherwise I don't feel particularly undergunned with 11 rounds versus 18 (even when I daily carried a 17L, I often seriously considered chopping the grip for G26 mags).

What do you G26ers (and G27 / G33ers) think of just sticking with the two factory mags?

    Thanks.

I wouldn't like to be shot by ten 9mm boolits, much less twenty.

I use the 10 with a +0 Pearce (probably spelled wrong) base plate. If I carry a spare i just grab a G17 magazine. They are interchangeable.

The 26 is actually something I see a good bit of in IDPA and it runs really well, even on the longer shots.

I carried for a couple of years without a spare magazine for my G26. When I started carrying a spare it just seemed to me there was no reason not to carry a larger magazine and there just might be a reason for needing it. I look at it this way, its unlikely you will ever need a spare magazine. But if you do need the spare chances are good the situation is so messed up and out there that the extra rounds are going to be desired. Carry a spare or don't, I see both sides of the argument and have been on both of them, but if you are going to the trouble of carrying it, it might as well be big.

I've carried my 27 with only 1 mag for 3 years. Bout a month ago I started carrying 1 extra mag for my 27. If there are more that 16 "walkers" I'm destined to be walker bait.

I carry my G26 IWB with (the hard to find) stock 12rd mags. I get a full grip and it is still smaller than a G19 mag.

If I only had 10rd mags, I would keep a couple of 15rd mags laying around just in case I needed them.

My wife just carries the 2-10rd mags with a pinkie finger ext on it. All it takes is 1 well placed shot but you still have 9 more to get it done:supergrin:

I carry my 26 every day with a ten rounder. No extra capacity needed. I would get a few extra mags personally. I like to have 5-6 for every gun(at least).

I personally just carry an extra 10 round magazine. Nice and small to just throw in a pocket and the grip is the same every time.

I carry the 27 with a 15 rd G-22 on the weak side. Would do the same for a 26 with G-17 17 rd mag along.

While you may not specifically need any more, in my opinion Glock magazines are inexpensive enough such that there is almost not a good reason to have one or two G17 or G19 magazines even if you only have a G26.

I choose to carry a full capacity magazine for my compacts.

It's not that inconvenient, and when TETOWAKI comes, you may need to use those extra rounds to make it to the Home Base...

I carry 10+1 with the stock mag, and don't carry a spare mag.

I have a G17 mag I use for the rare occasions that I OC, but I'd say 99.5% of the time it's just the one 10 round mag.

Also, you don't happen to go to Lindenwood in St Louis do you? They just set up a satellite campus like 200 yards from where I work. Very nice place.

I must be quite unusual. I carry a spare G17 magazine for a G17 carry gun.

My wife's EDC gun is a Glock 26, always carried with one spare 10 round mag.
She does however have 6 mags for her weapon. (Along with another spare G26 and its two mags.)

I personally think that a shooter should have at least 3 mags for his/her primary gun. One in the gun and one carried as a spare. The third to be kept around in case one of the two carry ones get destroyed, lost, etc…

I periodically buy additional 10-rd factory G26 magazines.

I function-test them with at least 50 rounds of live-fire and then put them away in case they're needed because of loss, excessive wear or damage to my regular carry & training magazines. I may have at least 8-10 magazines for the G26. (I don't keep track of the number of mags for any number of my pistols, but simply periodically add to them.)

I have a G19 magazine which I've sometimes used at the range, but I can't remember the last time I may have carried it outside the range as a spare mag. The factory 10-rd mags are fine for my needs. Most of the time I'll carry one spare, and sometimes I might carry 2 spares. Just depends.

FWIW, I'm still running some older 9mm G26 mags with #4 followers ... for both range & carry use ... as well as a number of the newer ones. As long as they work, they work. I just check and replace the springs periodically.
