I'm going to install a dog-door, and wonder if anybody has novel ideas for where/how to mount one. It has to be at ground-level because my 14y/o is starting to have trouble negotiating stairs.

The easiest and most reversible method would be to buy a storm/screen door, mount the dog-door to it, and install the assembly outside my regular door. However I can see it being a pain to have an extra door to deal with.

The decorative shapes imbossed into my steel-faced front door are such that cutting a hole and mounting the dog-door in the existing door would look very lousy I believe, though over I think I'd prefer that method for ease of daily use.

I have considered cutting a hole in the wall, but I don't have much wall-space at ground-level (house is 3 story on a very very steep lot).

    Ideas welcomed.
