does the white crayon actually work?

I have seen several glocks lately that have white lettering on the slide and thought it gave a nice look to such an ugly gun. I was thinking about doing it to mine.

Does the crayon trick actually work, and does it scratch the finish on the rest of the slide?

Also, how long will it last?

I used an off white grayish crayon. It looks very nice. Not as bright as the white. Try it you will like it. Crayon, credit card and hair dryer is all you need.

Interesting, does it rub right off the parts of the slide that you don't want color on?
I did it just to do it and went to the gun range during August when it was 102 then shot 500 rounds and all it did was melt. :rofl:I doub't if I do it again.
White Testors paint for plastic models works, and stays put for years. You need a bottle of the thinner too, because the process is more about wiping off the excess with thinner & a cloth, than about brushing the paint on.

Put the crayon in a place that is really warm under a shop light or maybe a microwave for 10 sec or so then rub it in the lettering and use your credit card to remove the rest. Real easy. If you dont like it just use toothpicks to remove.
I'm confused, what ugly gun?

I have used red crayon, white crayon, gold paint, green crayon. I am trying to decide on a color scheme. Maybe my GSSF guns will get gold paint, 45s get another...who knows?

I used a Crayola White Crayon and it worked amazing, I had a 700 round range day 2 weeks ago and it is still as bright as the day I put it on, What I did was :

1. Rub crayon into lettering to fully cover

2. Wipe off extra with Hoppes Solvent

3. Re-Apply white crayon and Hoppes wipe again

4. Use Pen Torch to Melt into lettering

5. Final wipe off with Hoppes

You are good to go :)

Oh noes, a siderlock.
I used a bright metallic gold nail polish.

Crayon works fine, too.
use paint or nail polish instead of crayon. brush on, then, wipe off excess with thinner or acetone(nail polish remover). The paint will remain in the recessed lettering.
If you want to paint the rollmarks in bright colors, do the first coat in white or gray. Better looking than 2 or 3 coats of the same, IMO.
<-------------Doesn't want white letters on a gun:dunno:
