Do you take prescription meds, any type? Just kinda wondering how far drugs reach into everyones lives. Seems they have pills for everything now-a-days.

What kills me is I know this guy, mid 30s, who is slightly over weight, smokes, drinks a lot, and has high blood pressure. When telling us all about it he brags how he got this new pill for his blood pressure so now he can do whatever he wants and doesn't have to worry about it anymore. Obviously I'm not saying everyone is like that but it got me thinking.

sure, nicotine constricts blood vessels, and the pill may fix that, but it won't fix the hardening of those vessels that it also causes, nor the buildup of plaque inside the vessels. his liver's also taking a beating. you said he's a little overweight, so we can assume high cholesterol. easy fix with a med, except for the fact that THOSE meds are metabolized in that wornout liver...

Before my hip replacements I was taking:

    100-150MG of Percocet a DAY
    Muscle relaxer every day
    2 blood pressure drugs
    15 Advil a day
    Ambien every night

After I got tired of the drugs running my life and had the hip replacements:

2 blood pressure pills every day.

Less is better, if you can do it.

Yes, Nexium. Since having my gallbladder removed in '99 I've had a lot of trouble with heartburn/acid reflux.

I am on a once a day heartburn med, protonix, which is a miracle drug. I have a hieatel (SP) hernia, which means I will have heartburn unlessI have surgery. It sure beats waking up several times a night to gobble tums or rolaids. One of the curious side-effects, according to the slip my pharmacist gives me ( I have never put it to the test), is that it will make me test positive for marijana in a drug screen urinalysis. Weird, huh?

I occasionally take ambien for periodic insomnia, and that is a wonderdrug also, but I wouldn't want to get in the habit of taking it every day. I have also been prescribed Klonopin (cousin to valium) for extreme stress, but I don't reach for that very often either.

Drugs are a wonderful and terrible thing. Use them, don't abuse them.

How about a poll for mental disorder prescription drugs? I bet the results would be scary...

Yes I do, and I agree.

They stretch way too far into our daily regime. They do help us all out, but at what cost? My grandmother is 99 and in long term care. I know she doesn't like it, but she can't care for herself. We have warehouses full of old folks just waiting to die, and after seeing it this up close, just as so many others have, there's no way I want to live to the point of convalescent care.

Are prescription meds just prolonging the inevitable death that should come sooner rather than later for all of us?

I was taking lipitor but started feeling strange, memory loss and my legs gave out on me,fell down the steps.I quit taking it.

Was taking ambien but that started giving me breathing issues so stopped that too-Currently,I take a advil pm and works for me.I plan on getting out and doing more walking when it warms up.

Now that would certainly explain some of the things I've read here.
